You could try booting into safe mode and restoring your computer to a time before the update was installed. Was the update KB977165? If memory serves, this update may crash your system when you are infected. Read more here:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=7377&tag=nl.e539

Try tapping F8 when you turn on your computer, select "Last known good configuration" and see if it will load the OS that way. If so, you will want to run some scans. I recommend Malwarebyte's Anti-malware to start:
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol

And then run an ESET Online scan
http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

If last known good configuration doesn't work, try F8 boot again, selecting "Safe Mode", and go into system restore to restore your computer to a point before the update was installed.
in XP it is START>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

Did this resolve your issue? If so, please rate it. ty.

I need to know how to restore my Compaq Presario 2700 to factory setting because it has crashed.

If you have the original recovery disc for the laptop, then I would re-install your operational system to bring it back to factory setting. If you do not have the disc go to www.compaq.com for customer support to see if they have the disc available.

My computer has crashed and I need a recovery cd to restore the system. Is there anywhere to download the recovery?

You can go here:

http://www.emachines.com/support/drivers.html

Enter your serial number, model and make of computer and find all the files that your computer came with originally. You may need to burn them to a disk using another computer. You can also order new recover disks from them.

Good luck!

Can i use a compaq system restore disk on an emachine? I don't have the boot up disks that i was supposed to create when i got this emachine, but i do have some old compaq ones, both use windows xp os...

You cannot use the restore disks from those other systems to do a restore. Even though you may be able to extract the XP install files, you won't be able to authenticate it because the disk is OEM and reads data off of the system it is supposed to install on.

If you have an emachine, contact them for the restore disk, or search the internet for a restore disk for your model. Some people sell them, even on ebay.

Emachines crashed has pc angel

You will need to perform a repair install of Windows. If you have a WINDOWS disk, you should be able to perform this. You will need the operating system cd and not a system restore disk.

Hi, check; is this an automatic update download?, or is this software manually downloaded. This download might not be compatible with your system. I suggest uninstalling the update. If computer configures back to normal; check for new updates, by Microsoft Updates! Thanks paul7of9

Emachines t5212 system restore backup files, please help!!

Hello,

If you only your files to be copied in the other or any storage disk then you can remove the hard disk of your machine and then attached it to the other functional machine. in there you can browse and copy all the important files. after copying all your files then you can take back the hard drive to your non functional machine and then install new operating system. documentation found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941

tell me if something wrong with your system when applying the solution.

My computer has no sound

did you restore with a factory restore disk or did you just install a copy of windows? the reason i'm asking is because if you're running a proprietary system i.e. Compaq, Dell, IBM etc. you need a factory restore disk to restore the system back to the way it arrived to you from the manufacturer or you will other wise have to find out what hardware your system has at the manufacturers web site or by phone and manually download and install the drivers.

Have you tried the Compaq Application driver recovery?

Click on Start , All programs , and then Hewlett-Packard or Compaq .

NOTE: If the Hewlett-Packard or Compaq folder does not appear, skip to the next step.

Then, click on any of the folders below (just one of them will be available depending on the model of your computer):
  1. HP Pavilion PC Tools ,

  • Compaq Presario PC Tools ,
  • PC Help and Tools , or
  • PC Recovery Tools .
  1. Click HP or Compaq Application Recovery .
  2. Select Driver Installation and click Next .
Select which drivers are to be installed, If you don't have this console go to windows update to see if microsoft can auto update for you,
