The mosdt common reason for non connection is low battery power. The battery lasts approx 2 years and may not be charging correctly. Try changing to a new battery.

Second reason is that it is not on the right port, consult manual for your model and set it to its correct port and BAUD rate.

Finally if you have started the enginbe with it connected to the 12v car outlet you may have damaged the chip.

My sat nav in my Audi 2001 A6 cant start route guidance because no satellites are detected

If it never picks up the sat signal then you have a defective GPS. Best to just replace it, the repair cost is equal to a new one.

1- Turn off unit.  2- press and hold the bottom right corner of the screen. 3-While still pressing and holding bottom right corner, press and hold power button and continue holding both until a white screen appears with a black dot. 4- follow the on screen directions and your unit will be back to the day you first got it.

My sat nav shows opposite direction map

Binatones run igo. I would recommend finding the latest software and trying an update - then see if the problem still occurs. There is also a setting in the map view for making the map change to the direction of travel - this may be causing an issue.
"austech" is a good place to start.

What is the OS of Garmin Nuvi 205 Sat Nav, will it accept map like Igo 8 or other maps

No, Garmin units are set to proprietary mapping so you have to use Garmin or Garmin-compatible maps.

Sat nav just stopped working today in perth wa, not picking up any sat signal. any way to fix this? is it my sat nav or the sats?

It isn't the sats. They're fine.

Try resetting the unit. Use a paper clip to press the button in a small hole on the bottom.

Try to reset the sats. To do this:

Tap the satellite bars in the lower right-hand corner.

Then, on the next screen, tap the satellite bars in the right-hand margin.

On the next screen, select "Configure." Choose a different configuration. Tap "Done," then "Done" again on the next screen.

Did that help?

I'm not sure if you are aware but there have been recent warnings that sat navs may start to fail and will stop working all together by 2010.

Are all sat-navs going to fail in 2010? Jump to Comments
sat_nav_fail.jpg?w=300&h=200 Sat-nav systems could become defunct next year, according to a report from the U.S. Government.
It reckons a lack of investment and development into the U.S. Air Force’s GPS (Global Positioning System) will cause the failure.
But the U.S. Air Force said sat-navs will carry on working as normal. So who’s right?

I’ve been meaning to buy a sat-nav for some time due to my girlfriend’s “interesting” map-reading skills.
There’s no doubt reading a map can be more rewarding, but the convenience of using a sat-nav is a welcome one.
But recent claims from the U.S. Government’s Accountability Office (GAO) concerned me slightly. It warned the 20-year-old Navstar GPS system is in urgent need of an upgrade.
The GAO criticised the U.S. Air Force Space Command for offering the service for free, and said the lack of investment meant both military and civilian systems could be affected.
Apparently the GPS system overran its budget by £562 million and the next satellite is due to go into orbit in August 2009 – almost two years behind schedule.
“It is uncertain whether the Air Force will be able to acquire new satellites in time to maintain current GPS service without interruption,” the GAO said.
But the U.S. Air Force Space Command left a comment on Twitter declaring there is nothing to worry about.
“Be assured, the issue is not whether GPS will stop working. There’s only a small risk we will not continue to exceed our performance standard.
“Since 1995, GPS has never failed to exceed performance standards,” the U.S. Air Force Space Command said.
Drivers across the world will be affected if sat-navs fail to operate in 2010.
If the satellites do go down, a new EU sat-nav system called ‘Galileo’ could be in big demand when it goes worldwide in 2013.
Until then, I’m going to put my faith in the U.S. Air Force and take the plunge with a sat-nav.

This does worry me, because I have had simliar problems with my work's sat nav, even on clear sunny days.

Tom Tom sat nav takes ages to get a GPS signal now.

Think I have sorted the problem out. I read some of your readers' solutions and it was mentioned that it may be advisable to log onto the GPS update. So, I installed my disc which came with the pack and followed the instructions to download the GPS update (and also took the opportunity to download other updates which took some time). Anyway, used the sat nav this morning and so far, it appears to be working normally now and the signal comes on in seconds!
