Could you provide more information? What do you mean by "reset the harddrive"? What are you trying to accomplish?

Im not sure that you understood the concept of resetting the hdd...this can be done only by formatting ...and from the windows you can not format but the partitions(drives) that not contain the windows installation ...to be able to format all partitions you have to use a installation cd with the operation system ( a boot-able one ) ..and boot from cd ...by selecting this operation from Bios settings ...and go along with the clean installation not from the recovery partition or cd ...
after you get along with the clean installation and formatted the hdd and remake the partitions ...and finished the installation of the operating system ...than you can use the recovery cd to install the drivers and the factory settings and programs .....
another easy way to do that ..is to hook it on another computer ...and just format it from windows...this will erase it clean ..and you will have to reinstall the OS after that ...

You can format the hard drive that I agree with Catalin or you can do another thing which is to have a new hard drive that isn't used for anything except your buying a new hard drive. With that install it in your Dell and instead of having your own hard drive being connected install the new one first where the original drive was. Then install the original in available slot in the drive bay for the hard drive. This is not going to "reset" the hard drive but it will allow you to access the hard drive after you've installed the new hard drive. If you don't have the original CDs that came with your system you need to go to the place you purchased your system or go to Dell's website and link to there instructions on how to order a CD kit from them for you. So if it all works you don't have to do much just copy most of the files you need and the drivers that came with your system. If you still have problems you can send your system directly to me and I will fix it and get it to run for you. I'll send a complete invoice on what had to be done and all you do is get the hard drive from any store and just send it with your own system. The rest is then on my shoulders.

How do you factory resotore a Dell Opitiplex 755 computer?

If the hard drive was replaced or reformatted, the factory restore was erased. If so the only way is to load OS from CD .

Hey guys I am trying to factory reset my inspiron 531s and have done this once before. I tried the f8 option. where you go to the advanced boot option and press enter on the "repair my computer"...

If neither the F8 repair, or Ctrl+F11 work, then you are left with using the recovery disks that you (hopefully!) burned when you bought the machine. If you didn't burn a set, then using a Microsoft disk with the right OS on it (i.e. Vista Home Premium, or Windows 7 Home Premium) should work. When you are asked to enter the key, you should be able to use the key provided on the label.

If the machine is still working though (which it looks like it may be doing, from what you have written), then you should still be able to make/burn a set of recovery disks.

The link HERE should also provide some support (it's Dell's website) - it has guide books on using the software.

My Dell won't boot up at all. Tried booting up in safe mode and everything. Nothing seems to work.

Press F8 the moment you see Dell logo screen and select Last Known Good Configuration. If it still doesn't boot to windows, your operating system might be corrupted and needs reinstallation.

Dell systems has an Image Restore options. In Vista, press F8 on the Dell Logo Screen and select repair your computer. If you're running on XP, Press Ctrl+F11 to boot from the Factory Image Restore partition. Follow the instructions carefully to restore system back to factory image.
