I changed the black Dell printer cartridge with a new Dell cartridge from a sealed package. I got a message on the printer screen that the cartridge was missing. After a few trys to make sure it was properly seated, which it was, I replaced it with the other one in the package. This time I get a left caartridge incorrect message. I double checked the installation and the message persists eventhough I have unplugged the printer twice. The replacements are the same series as the original. HELP

First make sure you are placing the right
color cartridge into the right slot.
Most Printers are touchy about the
installation of ink cartridges. If the
instructions say to press the cartridge
into the slot until you hear a loud click,
that's what they mean. If at first you
don't succeed, remove the cartridge and
reinsert it into the slot again and press
on it hard till it clicks.
Then your printer should work properly.
Hope this is of some help. Bud

I have a dell all in one printer 944. When I turn it on it keeps sending the message, "change ink cartridge" I have changed the cartridge twice and message remains the same. Is it broken?

Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges?

Please unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Now plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has. Now open the printer with the power on and the cartridges should go to the center to be replaced. Take out both Dell Series 5 ink cartridges and make sure the tape is off the cartridges and insert both back in and make sure the seat properly and latch. Close the printer and it should print an alignment page. If you still get the error message, please read bleow.

Black cartridge = black side(left side) Color cartridge = Color side(right side)

Photo Cartridge = Black side(left side) Color cartridge = Color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It is also possible to get a new ink cartridge with a bad sensor. Please take it to the place of purchase for a refund or a replacement one.

How do I remove the black ink cartridge to put in a new one?

1 Remove and Install Cartridges Be sure you have your replacement cartridges handy before you begin. You must install new cartridges immediately after removing the old ones. Caution:
Do not open ink cartridge packages until you are ready to install the ink. Cartridges are vacuum packed to maintain reliability. 1. Turn on the Epson Stylus CX8400 Series. If a cartridge is low or expended, you see a message on the Epson Stylus CX8400 Series LCD display screen. If a cartridge is expended, you must replace it to be able to print. If a cartridge is low, you can continue printing until the cartridge needs replacement. If you're replacing a cartridge before you see a message on the Epson Stylus CX8400 Series LCD display screen, press Setup, select Maintenance, and press OK. Then select Change Ink Cartridge and press OK. 2. Open the scanner. 3. Open the cartridge cover. 4. Squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift the cartridge straight up to remove it. Dispose of it carefully. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it. Warning:
If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children. 5. Before opening the new cartridge package, shake it four or five times. (Do not shake a cartridge after opening the package; ink may leak.) 6. Remove the cartridge from the package, but be careful not to touch the green chip on the cartridge. 7. Remove the yellow tape from the bottom of the cartridge. Caution:
Do not remove any other labels or seals, or ink will leak. 8. Insert the new cartridge into the holder and push it down until it clicks into place. 9. Once you replace all the necessary cartridges, close the cartridge cover and push it down until it clicks into place. 10. Close the scanner. 11. Press OK to begin charging the ink. This takes about 2 minutes. When you see a completion message on the LCD display screen, ink charging is finished. Caution:
Never turn off the Epson Stylus CX8400 Series while ink is charging or you'll waste ink.
If you see an ink replacement message on the LCD display screen, press OK and press down all the cartridges securely.

Black toner empty!!!! After refilling all of the dell 3110cn toners myself, I have re-sealed the toner input with some duct tape (fairly small, similar size to original seal) and inserted all the toners,...

This cartridge has a chip which stores the pagecount (for that cartridge).

You can re-fill these as much as you like, but unless you change the chip (it's NOT resettable) the cartridge will still think it is fully used.

Chips are available (different ones for each colour, and different again for the standard capacity and high capacity). You'll find them on a certain internet auction website.

Dell 3110cn toner error message "remove y tape". I have changed the cartridge twice now and cannot get the message to go away. Now after just a few days in the machine the yellow is beginning to fade like...

A new Dell original toner cartridge has a pull tab on one side. This is a seal on the toner hopper and prevents spillage during transit.

Some remanufacturers fit a seal too.

This is not the same as the drum cover (large orage plastic thing on front of cartridge), which you will have removed.

I order for the cartridge to be tested, a small amount of toner is used on top of the seal.

So, it sounds like you haven't pulled the seal, and the "after just a few days yellow fading like empty", fits in with this.

Ink

  1. Buy only genuine Dell replacement cartridges. Dell states their printer cartridges cannot be refilled with ink and that only their cartridges work in the printer.
  2. Bring the cartridge carrier of the printer to the center so you can access the ink cartridges. Open the cover of the printer and the carrier slides to the center. Make sure the printer is turned on.
  3. Remove the old black ink cartridge to use the color cartridge. If you allow the old black cartridge to remain in the printer, you will get error messages that the ink is low. The printer may also keep reverting back to the black ink as the default color when printing.
  4. Open the package of the new color cartridge carefully. Remove any blue packing tape that's on the ink cartridge. Take care not to touch the gold area or you could damage the cartridge. Insert the new color cartridge into the correct slot in the printer, the right side of the cartridge carrier. The ink cartridges aren't interchangeable; they need to be placed in the correct slot.
  5. Close the cover on your printer after installing the color cartridge. Run a print test to make sure the color cartridge is installed correctly. Use the Dell Ink Management System to monitor your printer and all-in-one functions. Thanks Thiru

No B/W print while black cartridge is full.

Your printer and its software will let you know when an ink cartridge is low or expended.

If an ink cartridge is low or expended, you see a message on the Epson Stylus CX8400 LCD display screen. If a cartridge is expended, you must replace it to be able to print. If a cartridge is low, you can continue printing until a cartridge needs replacement.

NOTE:
You cannot print or copy when an ink cartridge is expended even if the other cartridges are not expended. Replace any expended cartridges before printing or copying.

When an installed ink cartridge is more than six months old, you may need to replace it if your printouts do not look their best, even after cleaning and aligning the print head.

Follow the steps below to replace one or more ink cartridges that are low on ink, expended, or too old:

1. Turn on the printer.

If you're replacing a cartridge before you see a message on the LCD display screen, press Setup, select Maintenance, and press OK.

5. Before opening the new cartridge package, shake it four or five times. (Do not shake a cartridge after opening the package; ink may leak.)

CAUTION:
Never turn off the printer while ink is charging or you'll waste ink. If you see an ink replacement message on the LCD display screen, press OK and press down all the cartridges securely.

If you remove an ink cartridge for later use, protect the ink supply area from dirt and dust and store it in the same environment as the Epson Stylus CX8400 Series with the label facing upward. Note that there is a valve in the ink supply port, making covers or plugs unnecessary, but care is needed to prevent the ink from staining items that the cartridge touches. Do not touch the ink cartridge ink supply port or surrounding area, and do not store the cartridge upside down.

If you remove a low or expended ink cartridge, you cannot reinstall and use the cartridge.
