Unable to install Audio driver

Check the Compaq/HP WEB site - download the latest drivers for the Windows version you are using. Sometimes the latest one does not work but the previous one will work. (I've come across this problem before and it is not confined to Compaq/HP)

For a Compaq Presario C740TU Notebook PC running Windows XP, audio drivers would be for Conexant High-Definition Audio. Importantly, SoftPaq Number SP31994, "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio," (or later) must be installed on the notebook before installing SP32823.

In the control panel sound icon, are the drivers correct? OR Try uninstalling SP3 if yuu have done so and then reinstall the driver. Have you deleted the device in the <device manager> and let windows find the device and install drivers?

If your CD Driver is not working, try researching it in the internet. Go to the Compaq website and type your laptop model so it will find the right driver for your laptop. Once you find it, download and try to install it.

After searching for an hour there are no diversfor your models sound card that support XP your only two options are:

A) Run Vista

B) Purchase an external usb sound device and disable your on board sound card. Here is a link to some:

just remove the uaa bus and other audio driver if present then reload the uaa then load the driver,if the problem persists then visit the manufacture website and download the latest drivers for the sound

Have you installed the chipset drivers first?

have installed XP in Compaq Presario 707TU Laptop. I have configured audio as below. Install Microsoft UAA sp31994, then install High-definition audio driver sp33443. But I get the error message "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver."...

I think you must try to install realtek audio driver coz it works for most of the speakers.And if that doesn't work PLEASE check that your spekers are intalled properly.And please first completely remove the previous audio drivers.
