Perhaps you can talk to your telephone service about setting up a second line just for your fax sending and retrieval. There must be some type of deal they could give you..especially if you are a loyal customer.

Cannot send fax but can receive fax.

You do not give enough information. What happens when you try to receive? Does it ring? Is there any message displayed?

You will have to look through the options in the unit to find the receive settings in the menu. Make sure it's actually set up to receive. Usually there are receive (RX) options such as: manual, fax/tel, fax only, number of rings, distinctive ring and others.

In most cases if the machine is set to manual, you will have to press a button to receive a fax. It may be just the "hook" button, or a start button. Check your owners manual to see which button. In Fax/Tel mode the machine will assume you are using a telephone on the same line. You will have to set the unit to answer after the phone rings a specific number of times(four, for example). After four rings, if you have not picked up the receiver the machine will take the like and receive a fax. If you set it to Fax Only you can set it to answer on any number of rings, but it's best to just set it to one. In this mode the machine assumes it has a dedicated line.

If you have distinctive rings for various people in your home or business then you will have to consult your manual to see how to deal with the different rings.

One last note. Make sure your phone line is plugged into the correct port on the machine. I get a ton of calls at work from people who have the phone line plugged into the extension port, and the phone plugged into the line port.

If none of this helps, you will need someone to look at your fax machine. If you call HP, have your credit card ready.....

How do I set fax and phone on one incoming line?

You can't do that automatically on one line unless you ask for distinctive ring from yyour phone provider. Dist. ring gives one pattern for fax and a different ring for regular calls. Otherwise the fax needs to be set to manual and you answer each call and press fax start when you hear fax tones.

Incoming faxes not received, all else works.

Hi there,

It is your phone answering machine that must pick up in three rings or less.

Therefore 4 is too much. I would not limit number for fax machine itself.

On receipt of fax sometimes seems like it will not work when answering machine picks up in the middle. However, leave it and it will work. Sometimes sender will hear your answering machine and cancel as well. So try to ensure they don't give up at other end as well.

Good Luck!

Fax does not connect on distinctive ring

It's either your phone, or it's your fax machine that does not support fax through phone.

Can not recieve fax. currently just hooked to phone line

Receive a fax
Depending on the Auto Answer setting, your HP All-in-One can receive faxes
automatically or manually. If you have set the Auto Answer option to Off, you will
need to receive faxes manually. If the Auto Answer option is set to On (the default
setting), your HP All-in-One will automatically answer incoming calls and receive faxes
after the number of rings specified by the Rings to Answer setting. (The default
Rings to Answer setting is five rings.)
Receive a fax manually
If you set up your HP All-in-One to receive faxes manually (the Auto Answer option is
set to Off) or you answer the phone and hear fax tones,
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is turned on and you have paper loaded in the input
tray.
2. Remove any originals from the document feeder tray.
3. If you are currently on the phone with the sender, instruct the sender to press
Start on their fax machine.
4. When you hear fax tones from a sending fax machine, do the following:
a. Press Fax on the control panel of your HP All-in-One.
b. When prompted, press 2 to select Receive fax.
c. After the HP All-in-One begins to receive the fax, you can hang up the phone.

Incoming faxes

Do you have a distinctive ring pattern in the same phone line
If no then you need to get a distinctive rig pattern from your service provider, which will differenciate the type of rings for phone and fax.
If you have a distinctive ring pattern make sure which one it has single rings, double rings, triple rings and double and triple rings.
To enable> First make sure auto answer in turned On
In setup/Menu go to > Rings to answer and set it to 5 or 6, and make sure the rings to answer in you answering machine set to 4(Always Should be lower then you rings to answer in the fax)
In Advance Fax setup> Then Ring pattern should be setup for the one which you service provider as given either double or triple Rings>
And the go to tools and run fax test and check what has failed

Fix the fax

s.gif s.gif
Introduction Review the information below to determine why faxes cannot be sent or received. Review the symptoms below carefully and then select the symptom that best fits your problem. If the solution links you to a different document that does not resolve the problem, return to this document to continue troubleshooting. Faxes cannot be received but they can be sent Review the information below to determine why faxes are not being received.
  1. Phone company services: Do you have any of the following telephone line services from your telephone company: Voice Mail, Privacy Block, Security Screen, Anonymous Call Rejection, and Privacy Manager. These phone services are meant to prevent unwanted calls, but they will also stop faxes. Contact your telephone company for their recommended solution for receiving faxes on the same line with these services.
  2. If you wish to receive faxes automatically, verify that automatic answering is enabled on models that have an Auto Answer button, or that the Rings to Answer setting is set to a number equal to or larger than one for models that do not have an Auto Answer button. On models with an Answer Mode setting, it should be set to Fax, FaxTel, or AnswerMachine depending on your setup.
  3. If you have a HP PSC 2200 or an Officejet 6100 that interrupts calls or will not receive faxes, download and install the HP Firmware update for these products.
    1. Visit the HP Support and Drivers Home page .
    2. Select Download drivers and software .
    3. Type in your model number (HP PSC 2210xi for example).
    4. Click the search arrow to the right of the text entry box. You may be asked to select your product from a list of models.
    5. On the software download page, select your Windows version.
    6. Locate and select the firmware update.
    7. Follow the directions to download and install the update.
  4. If an answering machine is connected to the same line, fax reception problems can occur. These problems may be corrected by changing settings or phone line connections. For more information on using a TAM or distinctive ring service, go to Using the HP All-in-One and Fax Products with a Telephone Answering Machine (bpu04072).
  5. If you have a PBX phone system, or an ISDN or DSL modem connected to the line, there may be some phone line configuration problems. Fax machines are analog devices and cannot be used on a digital phone service such as those used in many businesses (PBX systems). Install an analog phone line for a fax machine. Refer to document Using an HP All-in-One or Fax Product on a PBX, ISDN, or DSL Phone System (bpu50333) to learn how to correct these problems.
  6. If the problem still exists, continue troubleshooting in the Faxes cannot be sent or received or you're not sure of the problem section below .
