Hi DENAULTR, this is a repeat of my previous answer to your problem. It would also be helpful to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, in your case use KSM50P (Your K5SS mixer falls within this manual), and select the first file KSM50P.pdf (438.31 KB) listed under Parts List (4) and then check to verify this matches your mixer model. Turn to pages 6 & 7, titled ?Motor And Control Parts?, which provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer?s electrical components, along with all the part names and numbers. Locate Illus No 47, Brush holder assembly that includes Illus. Nos. #28, 32, 33, 34, & 46, and Illus. No. 29, Brush & Spring assembly respectively. Make sure you orient each bruch correctly following the illustration here: The Parts List diagrams along with the picture above regarding the orientation of the brushes should get your mixer powered back up and operational. Good luck! I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA If this solution has been helpful to you, please rate it, thanks! -hslincoln

Kitchen Aid K5SS mixer runs for a little while then stops

Check the carbon brushes, they could be worn out. Apart from that you will be pulling it apart to find the burning, that's where the fault will be.

Kitchen Aid Model K5SS.Ran only on higher speeds for a time, now wont run at all.Power supply and brushes ok.

Hello oldandnew2,

The problem is in the speed switch, the contacts are closed and not allowign power to go thru it is a common problem with all of the kitchen aid mixer over a period of time the contactors get carbon build up. Take the back off and look at the bottom inside and there should be two little contactors see if the are burnt and try and clean them. If this does not work you will need a new one, post back the the tread and I will locate you one.

KITCHEN AID MIXER K5SS has a banging noise when turned on how would I find out how to fix it ?

You will need to open it up and inspect the brushes carefully. Look for a little copper wire, this wire needs to be firmly attached to both the brush and the little disc at the other end of the spring. Clean the brush out with a can of electric cleaner to free any dirt that has built up around the gears.

How do I replace the brushes on a Kitchen Aid k5ss mixer. I took the black plastic buttons and the spring out but the brushes seem to be stuck. One of the had pieces of what I think is carbon off the...

I normally CAREFULLY drill a small hole thru the centre of the brush and get it out with a hooked probe. The brass square sleeve that the brush goes into can slide out with the brush. Make sure that doesn't happen because if it does you'll be splitting the cases to get the brush holder wire back where it belongs.

I have disassembled my K5SS Kitchen Aid mixe with all gears removed in order to solve its electrical problem. When I plug in the motor and move the speed lever, there is no movement or sound of the motor...

Unless it sits at the back of the motor behind the vent cover. I couldn't find one anywhere on ours either. Check the motor brushes for broken or badly worn carbons, or collapsed springs. It could be a broken wire at the plug end or something wrong with the speed switch. Some strategic voltmeter sleuthing is required. Try turning the motor shaft while the power is on. It may have a dead commutator segment.
