The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

What memory card is compatible with the small freelance digital camera sold in cvs stores

The Freelance camera I found has no memory card slot. Apparently, it is a webcam that fits in a plastic housing so that it can be carried around as a still camera, too. It relies on fixed internal memory for storage and a USB 1.1/mini USB socket for downloading images off of the camera.

Downloading pictures from coolpix l120 to hp laptop compaq presrio with only usb cord

The computer doesn't know what the camera is without the software. You can download the software from the nikon website. Easier fixes are available. If it is a notebook (laptops arent laptops anymore more) you should have a card reader slot on the left side of your computer. Remove the SD card from the camera and plug it into their computer. Then you'll have the option to import the pictures.

Have windows vista on new computer, no longer have CD ROm for camera. I am unable to access the software when I connect it through USB port???

The camera should be detected as a drive when the camera is connected via USB. Does it? You should be able to connect and copy your photos straight out like a USB drive.
