Any email file I receive that has a pps attachment I cannot open

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

What is your email program? What is your OS (version and service pack)? What have you tried so far? What AntiVirus program are you running? Have you tried to 'save' the attachment to your computer, then opening it? Do you receive an error? If so, please specify. Do you have Microsoft Powerpoint or Powerpoint Viewer installed? Look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Ill ask the obvious first, do you have Microsoft Powerpoint installed? If you dont, you can download a free PPS viewer. Just Google "PPS Viewer" , download and install it. If you do have PowerPoint, then try saving the pps file to your computer locally and try opening it? Please always post your questions with as much details as you can. What email client are you using? Gmail, Yahoo, Thunderbird, Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, etc. Its hard to answer questions with hardly any info. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to FixYa,

This is because you dont have MS Office installed on your computer or if you do have MS Office the files are not associated with opening with Office.

PPS stands for PowerPoint SlideShow or can be found as PPT (PowerPoint Template) or PPTX for early versions of Office 2007 and 2010.

Please install either Microsoft Office (needs to be bought) on your computer or (if you only need to view this file) install PowerPoint Viewer 2007 or 2010 (free to download HERE).

If this is a problem directly related to Hotmail inbox or the specific email please check your email settings in hotmail or gmail account for filetypes.

Also do regular powerpoint or ms office files open if you download them from the attachments in the email?

Regards from FixYa.

When receiving an email with attachment after downloading attachment it will not stay open

Right click the file and extract all, most likely if it has an attachment its a .zip file and it needs to be extracted to associate itself with the proper program. This is one of many solutions ,would need more details to tell you anymore such as operating system, email client, web browser, etc.If the file you are trying to open is a .pps file, for example, then you would need to download the power point viewer to view it,power point is not a default program on windows operating systems.Check and see what the extension is on the file eg.(such as).exe,.zip,.jpg,etc.ok hope this helps good luck

Am confused regarding what to download for simple power point viewer use when receiving e-mail with "pps" attachments. Will appreciate recommendations.

Hi,

If you wish to view Power Point (.pps) attachments you receive in your e-mail, you need to download and install the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007 which you can download by clicking this link.

Also, please be careful while opening PowerPoint documents you receive in email because a lot of viruses are transmitted these days along with .pps documents. So, only open PowerPoint attchments from contacts whom you know.

Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa

Office 2003 Uninstall

First of all, you don't have to reinstall Powerpoint. Just right click on a .pps file, select 'Open with' > 'Choose Porgram' select Powepoint, and then check in the checkbox which says: "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file", and click OK. It makes Powerpoint the default program to open your .pps files.

And to answer your question: in theory you won't loose any data by reinstall, but it's always a good idea to make a backup of the data files before such an action. p, li { white-space: p
