The residual water can easily be removed with the use of a wet/dry shop vac. Just remove the drain hose from the standpipe and pull a vacuum through the line with the shop vac. PS This residual water is normal in washing machines and should not be considered a problem unless the water is visible in the tub. Residual water generally sits between the outer tub and wash basket in the drain lines. This is truw with top loaders as well. Most front loaders will start a brief drain cycle at the beginning of the wash cycle to get rid of this residual standing water to prevent stagnant water from getting on your clothes.
