I assume you mean SDHC.

The SD600 was designed to use SD cards. The SDHC specification is backward compatible, meaning that SD cards will work in SDHC devices, SDHC cards will not work in SD devices. This is a hardware incompatibility, not updatable in firmware.

Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Canon sd600 wont read 16gb memory card

No. The SD600 works with MMC and SD cards, which max out at 2GB. It will not work with SDHC cards such as your 16GB card.

Is a SDHC Memory Card 4GB compatible with my Canon Powershot SD600 camera?

Your camera will accept a maximum SD card capacity of 2GB. It simply isn't capable of handling anything of a larger capacity and in particular is incompatible with the more technically advanced SDHC cards.

Your fix is to either replace your camera with a later model or to stick to using SD cards with a maximum 2GB capacity.

I have a cannon power shot SD600. I bought a memory card, and the camera says memory card error. I can't even fomat the card because the function won't high light.

Did you get an SDHC card? The SDHC protocol was developed after the SD600 came out, and the SD600 is not compatible with it. Use SD cards with a maximum of 2GB storage capacity.

My canon sd600 says Memory card error?? any

I'm afraid that's exactly what it could be. A bad card which can't be formatted. Occasionally digital warnings can get it right, Occasionally.

Memory cards don't last forever and depending on it's use and treatment they can die sometimes somewhat prematurely. Just removing the card whilst it''s being accessed by the camera can ruin a card for good. Just check that the record inhibit tab isn't in place on the card. It's a little tab which when closed will stop the pictures stored on it from being accidently erased. Although usually the camera will say protect and not error.

I'd be inclined to try formatting the card in another camera if you can borrow one for a few minutes. Whatever you do, don't try formatting it in your computer. Or borrow a known good card and try it. If it works it would appear your card is dead.

How to format an SD card on a Canon SD600 camera when the menu says "memory card locked." The memory card is in the unlocked position. When we put the SD card in another Canon camera (SD780 IS), it works...

Could be that you have the wrong memory card.
SD600 will only work with the old SD cards, but the SD780 will take the SDHC cards.
SDHC was intended to give 4gb or more of storage, while the old SD started as 16 mb.  Different cameras have different limits, but it is always best to assume that the practical limit on an SD card is 2mb.  Even if the SD780 will take the SDHC cards, it can be more practical to only carry 2GB SD cards and know that they will fit either camera

Can I use an SDHC Ultra 8GB memory card in my Canon Powershot SD600?

I would say no based on the Canon website information.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=12913#ModelTechSpecsAct

You could contact Canon to verify, and they might have a firmware upgrade to allow use of high capacity storage cards.

My canon sd600 is not reading PNY sdhc memory card. msg says card is locked. it's clearly not locked

HC or High Capacity is not compatible with this camera. You have to buy a memory card which says only "SD" and NOT "SDHC". Cards of 2Gb and less are usually "SD". Cards of 8Gb and more are always "SDHC" for technical reasons. Cards of 4Gb can be either, but the SDHC kind are much more common, because they're cheaper and newer.

"Card Locked" error is false!

Remove card from SD600 camera. Locate sliding switch on side of SD card and move from lock to other (unlocked) position. That ought to do it. Compact flash card is another issue.
