Try resetting the device it?s usually a small pinhole on the back or side of the device try holding that in for about 10 seconds or Try reflashing the firmware for your device you can find the latest firmware and flashing utilities from the manufacturer?s website. Make sure that you back your music up first because when you do this you are setting it back to factory settings.

either you have keys locked (look on the end near the earphone jack) or you have low battery

The upgrade should have put any pretinent files on the device that were needed. The easyRip application will write the necessary files when the transfer of media is done.

In answer to your question specifically...No, the player is not having issues because you don't have the root directory files. I would try re-installing the firmware again.

Same here, I downloaded the firmware update that should allow aac to play but it's a no go. In my case I'm trying to play itunes (mpeg4) and it wont play. Yes I know this is a mp3 player but that's what I thought the update fixed although I may be mistaken. Funny thing is this, if I turn the volume up and down continually it will let me play the song lol. This whole incompatibility issue has to do with these bully companies blocking users from using other companies with their products (worked for microsoft so why not). Solution for me: buy an ipod.

P.S. In my opinion this is as bad if not worse then the public downloading illegal music. It's just that in this case it's a corporate entity perputrating the offense so don't hold your breath on it being fixed anytime soon.

Virus. Format the USB drive and make sure no more virus, then copy songs again making sure no virus.

Mine didn't want to upgrade either. I kept trying it. I would notice that the box to continue would just flash for an instance then shut back off. I just kept trying to click on the box, and finally I timed it just right and it went ahead with the upgrade. Hope it will work for you.
