I just unboxed my hp 6500. The first time I tried to print the print/ink carrage got stuck on the right side and now will not move. I cannot physically move it. It is stuck on something. No paper jam, there has not been a piece of paper through it yet. I noticed the display unit at the store had the same problem. Any ideas?

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles. If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive. It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.
The HP 6500 printer has separate in cart and print heads. The light print you are getting is because the print head in clogged with dry ink. First thing to try is to go into the printer software on your computer and do a print head cleaning procedure, this will take a few minutes to finish. You may have to run this several times to clear out the dry ink. If this does not solve the problem when you will need to get a replacement print head, the part number is CB868-30002
Hello! There are many types of error in Canon Printers like P07,P08, E15etc. So please notify the error or check it through your computer notification. After you see the error number (s) please send me a message. Let me try my best for you. Thanks
This happens as the ink needs some time to saturate the system. Usually one needs to print quite a few pages for the ink to flow through and get to the ink head. A better quicker way is to clean the ink heads with the aid of the software that came with your printer.
Navigate to your windows control panel and double click printers and faxes. Then right click on your HP Officejet 6500 printer and select properties. Then click the Print test page button. Check the manual for cleaning the ink head.
if you are a tech and have opened one of these before, clean the service station on the right side, oil the carrage rod. time about 1.0 to 1.5 hours. most of the time this is the problem on inkjets.
go to the section "Moving the carriage" turn on printer and then unplug power. If you still cant move the carrage then remove both toner cartridge and all the trays. Then completely disconnect printer and stand it upright (so paper feed and cartridge tray is on top) Look thru the paper feed area to the left side of toner carrage and you will see a little plastic tab around the bottom back of the carrage. That tab is suppose to be inside a track on the bottom of the carrage. I think that when we put in or took out toner we must have pushed it to hard and that piece jumped out of the track and has "locked" the carrage. I just pushed the carrage up carefully and used a letter opener to move the plastic tab back into place (tab is spring loaded) print working fine now. Hope this solves your problem

if you have had this for some time, the ink pads and their well may be clogged with dried ink. look at those. If so, you will have to take them out and clean out the well, then the ink heads should move freely.
