The red light on amplifier relates to power supply while the green light is indication of sound functionality. An amplifier that allows sound to generate should display both red and green lights. Howeever, some amplifiers would display only green as long as the sound is functioning.

Solving the problem

First, a red light still on means the power connections to the amplifier is fucntional least requirng repairs.

Second, the green ligh should turn on once the stereo were tuned up to produce sound. If the stereo is still on only least produce sound on the amplifier, check on the connection wires between stereo to amplifier that may have disconnected due to woofing or dubbing sound generals with unfirm wiring.

Third,

you may have fried the amp pre outs in the head deck, try the amps on another stereo

Most amps do a "power up" where all the lights can come on, then settle into "green light" or some sort of "ready status" light comes on. The red or yellow lights can indicate "protection mode" (a bad amp) and green is the universal signal for okay. - So try this - Double check your connections and the amp. Pay close attention to the settings on the amp before you declare it not working. I have had many amps (especially newer ones) cause problems from a simple switch that was in the wrong position. Be sure to use good power and audio cables matched to your amps capabilities with good strong grounds on a clean non-painted metal surface. If all is in order from there start checking your signal from the deck to the amp. You can also check manufactures website for the manual, (if you didn't get one) looking at it may give a clue about proper switch configurations and hook-ups. i am assuming the amp is not under warranty, if it is, rma it... if not, you have nothing to lose from trying this.

hitting it and having it work usually means something is loose or broken, remove the case and extract the circuit board.. clean all parts thoroughly using a good electronic or contact cleaner, i use crc qd electronic cleaner as it is cheap and available at most auto supply stores, just make sure whatever cleaner you use is not industrial duty and is plastic safe.

after the entire thing is cleaned (coils, caps, anything resembling dust), check with a magnifying glass for any broken solder joints, you can also very lightly touch components and see if they move.. this sounds like either broken solder joints, extremely dirty contacts, corrosion, or dry caps.. you can usually locate dry caps by looking for corrosion around the cap and discoloration on the top of the cap.
