Philips TV sound on but picture fades to black

Have the same problem, my TV set is a Samsung CRT 21". But the thing is it faded for a couple of times and after turning on for the third time I was able to watch without problem for about 6 hours or so. But the following day when I turned it on again, I encountered the same problem.

Need help very badly, have no budget yet to buy another TV set.

3 yr. old 15" Magnavox LCD, picture black, sound fine and remote works to the extent of changing the channels, but no picture comes up. It happened about a month ago and I just pulled the plug and check all of the cords that they were tight and plugged it back in and it worked for 2 months. Yesterday the picture is not there again. I did the same procedure, but this time it did not work. I feel that a three year old tv for $227.00 should last longer than that. If anyone could help, it would be appreciated.
