Hello mam or sir,
I had a pretty bad paper jam when faxing something through the document feeder. Pulled the feeder assembly out to clear jam. Got all the pieces out, but now the feeder does not want to pull paper through. It runs but the first set of gears does not grab the paper. Please help!

    This chuckiebell,

The problem is not the gears or something stuck in it. the feeder seems to run backwards.

The rollers on the feeder can go bad and the best way to solve it is to get a new complete assembly. Check the website under your make and model for the assembly. YOu might also want to check for paper jam

My HP printer paper get stuck in top feeder whenever I try to fax

Lift the cover to the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) and remove any paper debris from the rollers. Also, clean the rollers with a very damp cloth and a dab od dish washing detergent.
Also, check to see that the spring loaded lever is in place.

Clear the jam from the automatic document feeder (ADF)
  1. Make sure the product is turned off and the power cord is unplugged.
  2. Grasp the upper edge of the automatic document feeder (ADF) assembly and open it.
  3. Raise the roller assembly.
  4. Gently remove any jammed paper from the ADF.
  5. Lower the roller assembly.
  6. Close the ADF assembly.
  7. Plug the power cord back into the product.
  8. Press the Power button (c01346625.gif ) to turn the product on.
  9. Try the print job again.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Sounds like there is something going on with the paper sensor flag that resides in the top cover of the automatic document feeder. Need to make sure it is moving freely. It is spring loaded so it should move freely and spring back in to place. Sounds like your may be sticking in the up position after a few sheets. When the ADF lid is down these sensor flags should go in to holes in the bottom of the ADF. Hope this helps..

Jam in the document feeder

I think I found my answer. You don't have to un do any screws. Lift up the cover to the automatic feeder. You will see a spring on the side of the mechanism towards the front; remove the spring; that will allow you to lift up the little arm the spring was attached to and remove the roller or bar and the light blue/green plate just under it. Then you will be able to see the jammed paper, which which I was able to carefully pull out with a pair of tweezers. Some was under rubber rollers, but when I pulled the paper sideways it slipped out. Now it works!

Document feeder is jammed and doesn't copy or fax

Is it jammeded or is it simply a warning saying it is?

Remove all paper and attempt a paper feed without paper.
The paper feed and delivery trays are removable so remove them and carefully reset them.
Making sure the paper is well fanned reload and retry.
Come back with the result.

Document feeder works for printing but not for scanning

Hi, When you had the doucment feed jam were you able to clean or remove any paper that might be blocking the paper to be scanned? It sounds like there is paper still in the document feeder , I would open the DF and check very closely to make sure no paper is in the way!Good Luck!

Document feeder jam?

So when you copy via docfeeder, everything comes out fine?

Look around where the paper exits the docfeeder...there should be some kind of black plastic flapping piece...the paper pushes it up as it goes through the machine.  If this is stuck up, the docfeeder might think that the paper is stuck inside the feeder.
