I'm trying to scan something and my computer says the OCR program is not installed and needs to be installed before i scan. what is this?

To scan documents for editing and saving as PDF file, you will need to install the Lexmark OCR scan software on your computer. The Lexmark scan software (no downloadable version) is only available on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.

To install the OCR scan software from the printer installation CD:

1. Insert CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the installation screen open, click Cancel.
2. Double-click on My Computer / Computer.
3. Right-click on Lexmark XXXX CD and select Open.
4. Double-click on OCR.
5. Double-click on Setup.exe to install the OCR software. Your operating system will then determine the language in which it is installed.

Try this approach:1. Uninstall your existing printer driver. On your computer, go to Start menu > Programs > Lexmark X5600 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. After the uninstall process, reboot your pc when prompted.2. When your pc turns on, check if your Windows 7 is running on 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. On your computer, go to Start menu > right-click on Computer > click on Properties. Take note of the System Type.3. Use the link below to download and re-install the corresponding printer driver for your operating system:- Lexmark X5650 Printer Driver for Windows 7 32-bit- Lexmark X5650 Printer Driver for Windows 7 64-bitSimply follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete the installation.4. To re-install the Lexmark OCR scan software, insert the printer software installation CD in your pc CD-ROM drive.5. Click on Install > Install Additional Software > select the Lexmark OCR Scan Software > continue with normal installation steps.
Then try to create a PDF or Scan and Edit text (OCR) to verify that the problem is fixed.

OCR is short for Optical Character Recognition. OCR programs are used for recognizing and telling the difference between text and images on scanned documents to help your computer decide what file format to save it in. Possible solution for this is to download the appropriate software and re-install it on your computer using the recommended settings.

An "OCR" , or "Optical Character Recognition" program needs to be installed on a computer to which the printer is connected. These programs convert scanned text into editable documents. I'm confused about you meant about OCR being installled on a CD.

Without CD you can't install OCR or Optical character recognition software because OCR function is not installed in scanner but in computer. Usually when you buy new scanner you get CD or DVD with drivers and some lite version of OCR and some other programs for graphic editing.

It's not the printer or scanner, it's the scanning software on your computer that enables OCR. Most free programs won't do OCR, You need something like the add-ons available with Adobe Acrobat.

OCR is a program for scanning text to a word processor; it is not needed for scanning. If you need to scan text to a word processor, you can use any OCR program. You may have to purchase it

Sometimes companies only support only the basic drivers. The OCR software is on the CD (s) that came with the printer. Suggestion. Try to order the original CD from Lexmark., or search Ebay for programs that have OCR capability. You can use OCR programs from other vendors as long as they are stand-a-lone programs. Just make sure you have the original disc so as not to infringe on copyright privileges.

Note: you can buy OCR programs. Check Ebay and Amazon. They are usually better that the programs that come on the OEM disk.

put in your country etc.......
choose the x1240 in the driver box.......then search
choose windows vista from the operating dropdown box.......
click on download now and then install the new driver.....
