Try restarting the router and check up all the settings, or restore factory defaults settings and after that make the changes you want.

How to set a pasword

Hi rjepoy,

If you want to setup a Password or Security on your router you need to access the Wireless Settings Page. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.0.1, the Default username is admin and the password is blank. Go to the Wireless Settings and under Wireless Security Mode select WEP, WPA or WPA2 on the dropdown next to Security Mode. Then Personalize you Network Key or Passphrase.

Don't Forget to say Thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

How do i get my internet on my ipod?

Hey there,

Its a relatively simple process to enable internet on your Ipod. To do this you are going to need a little bit of information. You'll need: your routers Broadcast name (SSID), and your WEP or WPA/2 password.

Now follow these steps:

  1. Turn on your iPod. Ads by Google
    '; for(i = 0; i '+ '' + google_ads[i].line1 + ' ' + google_ads[i].line2 + ' ' + google_ads[i].line3 + '
    ' + '' + google_ads[i].visible_url + ''; } s += ""; document.write(s); return; } google_ad_channel = '+7733764704+1640266093+9911500640+2974691118+9016233241+8388126455+8941458308+6876289738+7122150828' + xchannels + gchans; google_ad_client = "pub-9543332082073187"; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_ad_type = 'text'; google_feedback = 'on'; google_ad_region = "test"; google_ad_format = '250x250_as'; //-->
  2. If not at the home screen, press home button.
  3. Tap settings button.
  4. Tap "wi-fi".
  5. If broadcasting your ssid, choose from the 'choose a network' list.
  6. Tap 'security' if you are using security and select your security type.
  7. Tap the 'other network' button to get back to network setting.
  8. Type in your security password, which is your key in your wireless modem setting. (*Important: if your using WEP security type, you must use key 1 from your wireless modem setting. If your using WPA or WPA2 security types then use the WPA Passphrase)
  9. Click 'join' after you have typed in your security password.
  10. Your network name (ssid) should show in 'choose a network' with a check mark next to it.

If there are any more problems feel free to get in touch.

All the best :)

We just bought a new emachine, Acer E627, with windows 7. I cannot connect it to our home network using a D-Link DIR-655 router. It has always worked fine. Other computers can connect to OUR network, we...

WPA is not very stable and I have seen many problems with this. Simply change router setting to be configured with WEP and use a good strong password in hex 0-9 and a-f . WPA is horrible any way, and who the heck is gonna sit out side your home to hack it? It is not a WIN 7 problem but more like aging encryption.

I hv a DIR-655 router & i've lost my manual. i want to secure my router and lock out others outside my residence. can you take me thru the steps?

Please visit http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2484 for complete FAQ and screen shots.
Step 1
Open a web browser and type the IP address of the DIR series router into the address bar (default is http://192.168.0.1). Press Enter

Step 2 The default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank (nothing). Click on OK.

Step 3 Click on the Setup tab at the top and then click on Wireless Settings on the lefthand side.

Step 4 From the Wireless Security Mode dropdown menu, select WPA-Personal encryption.

Step 5 From the WPA Mode dropdown, Under WPA, select the form of WPA you would like to use.

Use WPA or WPA2 mode to achieve a balance of strong security and best compatibility. This mode uses WPA for legacy clients while maintaining higher security with stations that are WPA2 capable. Also the strongest cipher that the client supports will be used.

For best security, use WPA2 Only mode. This mode uses AES(CCMP) cipher and legacy stations are not allowed access with WPA security.

For maximum compatibility, use WPA Only. This mode uses TKIP cipher. Some gaming and legacy devices work only in this mode. To achieve better wireless performance use WPA2 Only security mode (or in other words AES cipher).

Step 6 In the Pre-Shared Key box, enter the desired Pre-shared key.

This is the “password” that allows communication between you’re encrypted client (e.g. the PSP or your wireless computer) and the encrypted wireless signal coming from the router. This password must contain at least 8 characters, the characters can be anything you can create from your keyboard.

Step 7 Click on Save Settings to save your settings.

thanks Ranjit
