Is it new?
On the iphone if you hold (and keep holding) the home button as you connect both ends of the firewire/usb this triggers a complete reinstall, without needing to connect to Itunes.

Ipod shuffle 2nd generation error 1429

I did some digging and came up with a possible solution. I plugged the iPod into my PC, brought up Device Manager, went to Disk Management, then looked for the iPod capacity in the list. I went through the stages of formatting it with Windows then I restarted the restore from iTunes. I was successful in being able to restore the iPod and getting the latest update installed. Hope this helps.

I was given an i pod shuffle as a gift from a friend but when i went to apple support the i pod had been disabled. how do i fix it so that i can put my own apple itunes on. thanks anne marie

To reset iPod shuffle:
  1. Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
  2. Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible. ht1655_1.gif ht1655_2.gif ht1655b_3.gif ht1655--4th_shuffle-001-en.png
    1st generation 2nd generation 3rd generation 4th generation
  3. Wait five seconds. For iPod shuffle (3rd and 4th generation), wait ten seconds.
  4. Move the switch to the play in order or the shuffle position. The green stripe will be visible in either position. For iPod shuffle (2nd and 4th generation), slide the power switch on (and you can see the green stripe).

Ipod is not recognized by itunes. it wont play or charge it just blinks 4 times when i plug it in

  1. The iPod reset utility will reset your iPod shuffle back to it's factory settings. It works for the following shuffles: iPod shuffle (1st Generation) - iPod Software version 1.1.5, iPod shuffle (2nd Generation) - iPod Software version 1.0.3
The reset utility will fix the following issues.
    1. The iPod won't play music and can't be restored using iTunes
    2. iTunes won't see the iPod but you can see it under "My Computer" in windows or under Apple System Profiler on a Mac.
    3. iPod shuffle (1st Generation) is identified as a device in "Recovery mode." iPod shuffle (2nd Generation) is identified as a "USB DFU device."
  2. You have to have administrator privileges to run the restore software and it will wipe out all the information on the iPod (including all your music) and install factory software back onto it.
System requirements are Mac OS X 10.3.9, or later, Win2k with sp4, Win XP, this won't work on Vista.
Download the file for the program here:
    MAC
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodresetutility102formac.html
    Windows
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodresetutility102forwindows.html
  3. Install the software onto your computer, plug your iPod into the USB port and run the reset program, it will ask for your permission to reset the iPod, answer yes and the process will proceed. After finishing the reset procedure then use iTunes or whatever software is used to access your iPod and load your music. Enjoy your toy!

ITunes wont recognize my iPod. Unknown error 1415.

what ipod is this exactly ( 1st generation, 2nd generation, 3rd generation etc ? )

Also when you say you have tried restore but it did not work , can you explain further as how you tried to restore it ?

If you hold down the top and bottom of the scroll wheel together for longer then 5 seconds does that allow you to restore it.

Also if this is a shuffle I think there is a restore utility on the apple website that should allow you to restore it.

Also check the apple forums in relation to the correct model ipod you have and there should be some other people who have probably had similar problems with a solution.

Also if you connect it to another computer is it the same with regards to restoring it or itunes detecting it also if you right click on my computer --> manage --> disk management

does it show up in there ?

also if you google the 1415 error it should come up with more specific info - post back if you require further help
