FCP capture through blackmagic

Hi,

I'm using a black magic card with FCP 6. It has worked fine for me in the past. I have not used the computer in a while and now get "you do not have any serial ports required by this protocol" message when I try and select any Black magic capture options.

I have reinstalled the Black magic drivers,
Trashed preferences,
Many restarts
upgrades of FCP and black magic.

Also I have notice the the black magic software packages open but most/all of the options are grayed out. Using OS10.4.11

I am now about to reinstall FCP 6.

I doupt this will help so any other ideas?

Does Nikon D7000 MOV workable in FCP 6?

MOV format with Prores codec is FCP 6preferred video. So a program which has prores codec output is greatly helpful. As far as I know, two apps can export Prores codec video. One is Clipwrap andanother is Video Converter released by Pavtube. Clipwrap can not achieve yourtask because it only supports AVCHD videos. So please test Pavtube VideoConverter to check if it is helpful. It provides free trial version in Pavtubesite.http://www.pavtube.com/video-converter-mac/

Final Cut Pro X Review-No Log and Capture or Log and Transfer?

The newly released Final Cut Pro X is now a hot topic, especially among the FCP 7 or 6 users. The UI of FCP X is different from the older versions. The style change is somewhat like how Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 differs from the older versions. In the other words, it is from grey to black. Of course, Adobe Premiere Pro is different form FCP.

How would FCP X change the video editing on Mac?

- No Log and Capture , Log and Transfer:
With FCP 7 or below, the Log and Capture option is to import tape-based videos, while the Log and Transfer option is for file-based camcorder videos. If you have mini-dv like Sony HDR-FX1S, you may need another tool to capture and save videos as a file, and then import to FCPX.

For videos from file-based camcorders, the process is like working with iMovie. The Camera Import window should pop up when camera is connected to Mac for you to select clips. Then click Import Selected, or the like button to load videos. Even though FCP X is supposed to import AVCHD files in .mts or .m2ts format, there are still users reporting the problem. If that is the case for you, you may need to transcode AVCHD to QuickTime MOV for FCP. Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac would help you make the videos compatible to FCP X.

If you use Canon XF100 to shoot videos in .mxf format, or other camcorders with MXF files, just try Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac to see if it works for your .mxf video footage.

- No transcoding to ProRes:
As it is known that the videos imported via Log and Transfer would be transcoded to Apple ProRes. User should wait for the transcoding before editing. It is said that Final Cut Pro X would grant you access to your material right away, saving a lot of time.

Actually, there is also timeline for editing in FCP X. But the layout is different from the previous versions. The audio would be snapped to the video. You may find out more interesting features and get used to it.

I am trying to digitize HDV footage using fcp 6.0.6 on an Intel imac with 2gb ram. Trying desperately to get my computer to recognize the Vixia HV 30 camera, but it will not. I have tried changing...

First, confirm what type of video is being output from the camera as HDV cameras can also ouput DV or can Downconvert HDV footage form the camera to DV even if the settings for recording were HDV.
The message is to double check and understand the menu settings within the camera.

Once done FCP will require an Easy Setup that matches the camera output.
If you shot and are indeed outputting HDV, start off with Easy Setup>HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec1080i60, assuming you a an NTSC user.

Can one export footage from a camera into FCP without access to a mini-dv to Firewire cable - could one use a television and video AV2 input?

If your mac has an AV input card then likely your FCP should already be configured to talk to it. You need to look for the input selection choice drop down and change it to line in (AV in). However if your Mac doesnt already have a capture/tuner card with inputs then you wouldnt have any thing to connect the cables to.

Hello, I recently shot a student film on a Canon HV20 HDV Camcorder, Problem is my school doesn't have an HD deck to allow log and capture. I have final cut 6 and still can't get the setting right to...

This camera works fine with FCP 6. I use it all the time. You need to use the Easy Setup for Firewire basic HDV 1080/60i (or whatever sounds like that). The camera should be connected from it's small connector FIREWIRE port(under back panel cover -- USB port will not work for this use) to either a Firewire 400 or Firewire 800 port (auto-switches to 400Mbps if the device doesn't support 800) on the computer. Cables are available with a variety of connectors for this for under $20 ea (it's digital -- i.e. don't overspend on cables unless you have an actual problem!).
