Nikon Fe meter - warm batteries

I bought a Nikon FE on eBay. Owner says it hasn't been used for about 15 years. I fitted new batteries. Meter worked for a few seconds and then stopped. Took out batteries - which were very warm. The meter now won't work. Can anything be done. The camera was sold 'as it'.

If the batteries discharged sufficiently to become very warm in just a few seconds then there's an internal short circuit and the internal circuitry has almost certainly been fried beyond repair. To get warm so fast, those batteries will have shoved some significant current through circuitry designed to handle mere milliamps.

Your camera will be repairable using donor spares, but the repair will cost more than buying another fully functional FE especially when you add on the costs of the CLA (Clean, Lubricate, Adjust) service that it will almost certainly need and the likely need for foam light seal replacement. If you buy another FE it will also most likely need a CLA and seal replacement unless there's proof of it being recently done, but at least you won't have the additional costs of buying a donor FE, stripping it for parts and then doing a heart transplant on it.

On balance, yours is best used as a spares donor; you'll get some of what you spent back if you sell it as a spares/repairs example.

Sorry there's no fix, but I hope that you have still found my reply to be of some use. If so, please rate my answer.

The aperture control ring of my FE doesn't move along with the lens. You have to hold it properly for the 2 rings to move together. Does it need lubrication?

Speedometer not working

There were two engine types in the year 2001. Toyota corolla 3ZZ-FE and 4A-FE. Speed meter problem may be due to the following reasons:
- Speed meter connector disconnected/corroded at the transmission.
- Wiring harness.
- Vehicle speed sensor.
- Combination meter.
- ECU

I Have olympus fe230 7.1 mp digicam it does not have a power even i bought a new battery pack.

You say you bought a new battery pack but have you actually checked it with a meter to make sure it has sufficient power?
I picked up an fe-230 used that had no batteries and bought a set of 2 batteries and a charger off ebay. According to the light on the charger the batteries are charged and ready. Only they aren't according to my meter. The el cheapo fleabay charger is no good.
So assume nothing and check your battery with a meter and go from there.

The shutter will only close in the B or M90 postion. It opens fine, but won't close. What should I do?

Try a new set of batteries. The shutter is electronically operated at all speeds except the B and M90 settings. If the exposure meter works with a new set of batteries but the shutter still does not, then you'll have to take it in for service.

How do i install a master air flow sensor and where is it located and how long does it take and cost for the part?

It depends on which engine you have, but can be done in about 30 minutes in each case. I have pasted the procedure from autozone.com below. The cost is $200.

I bought a used hyundai santa fe 2001,it didn't come with an owner manual, and i need to find out the size of speakers that fit the vehicle

go to crutchfield.com. they have a directory telling you the size of all speakers for about any car ever made. i believe ebay has the same function once you search for automobile speakers you get a window asking you the year and make of your vehicle.

Shutter staying open and only closing when dial moved to M90 or B

It sounds like your cameras need a CLA (clean, lube and adjustment). Occasionally when this has happened to me, i noticed that it was the foam on the mirror bumper that had gotten all deteriorated and gummy and as such the mirror would 'stick' to it when it flipped up. Changing the foam seals might do the trick.

Switching to M90 means that the camera is in Manual mode whereby it is not relying on the electronics at all in the camera. When your battery dies in mid shoot, you switch to M90 and you shoot manually at a fixed speed of 1/90 second. Of course your light meter won't have power, but if you meter manually or go by the 'Sunny 16' rule, you can adjust the aperture and get your shots.

Yes, moving the shutter dial to M90 should release the mirror back down, if it is stuck up.I'm assuming of course that you didn't manually set the mirror up anyway... Test it out with brand new batteries!

Film winder is loose and meter is not accurate.

It is absolutely OK, my dad too has one (not older than urs). make it tighter, but u need some screws drivers (specially for cameras). Open the camera and tighten the screw holding the winder arm. Try this only if u have experience otherwise u may end up with a scramble of camera. About the F-Stop, i have no idea why this is so... might be the technology is gone too advanced compared to the 1978.

Shutter remains open

The problem could lie in the meter/speed dial unit or in the shutter itself. New parts are no longer available for that model. You may be able to find a good one on one of the auction sites or even Craigslist. A good used one would be less than a repair even if parts were on hand.

Nikon FE

TRy firing the camera in the M90 setting. If it fires properly, use the battery test switch. If the battery LED doesn't light up, replace the batteries (2 MS76 type). The FE requires healthy batteries to operate the shutter. If the meter is calling for a slow shutter speed (low light or lens cap still on?). If the batteries are good, but the shutter still won't fire normally in sufficient light, looks like you're in for a repair shop visit.

Shutter remains open

It may be fatal as there are no parts available for the FE series. The main components that cause this problem are the FRE/ASA unit and the meter itself. The FRE is located under the rewind knob side of the top cover. It is made of glass and can be damaged by impact. The meter is under the speed dial and can also cause this type of problem. Neither is a easy repair.
