IBM T61 remains with dark blank screen but is on.

My computer turns on and the little green lights turn on, start up sounds happen, but the screen remains dark with a dark blue back light. Ive turned up the brightness, and tried every Fn combo, but nothing changes. Fn F7 turns the screen all black and wont come back with pressing Fn F7 again. ive turned the computer on and off again about 20 times.

Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.

Sounds like either there is a bad connection from the computer to the monitor, or the monitor has a faulty power regulator, causing the monitor to overheat prematurely, and shut off.

Blank screen upon startup

Try taking out the hard disk, plug in power and see if you have a display on your screen or external monitor. if same thing happen, try taking out the memory card. If you hear a beep sound it's a faulty mem. card, if no beep sound appears I suspected it's a motherboard faulty.

Screen stays blank when turned on

take your computer to your dealer and send it for repair.

The problem is most likely the inverter for the screen.
actually to see if that is the problem you can try to put bright light to the screen and see if you barely see the picture.

Monitor is blank when we turn the computer on.

Maybe not. Find the FN key. It is usually BLUE in color
Then look on TOP row of Computer keyb (or all over) and find CRT/LCD.
Press the FN and that key and your screen should come back. You accidentally sw. it to CRT (outside, external monitor)

Dell172fpb 17" monitor

Self-Test Feature Check (STFC) Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:
  1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove Analog (blue connector) cables from the back of computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor. The floating 'Dell - self-test Feature Check' dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains green and the self-test pattern will scroll through the screen continually.
  4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor.
If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

Thanks

Startup problem

try pressing F8 on start up and getting into the safe mode and highlight last known good configuration. If still no luck try this:- Only other solution is to remove right side panel of pc and locate the JBAT1 terminal and move jumper from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for a few seconds and back again. Turn on pc and then hopefully you can access the bios to set the time and date and save settings then re start.
