Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet
VLC media player is a free open source media player. What makes it different from you average media player is that it is packed with built in codecs. This means that it natively supports many video files without the need to first find , download and install codecs.
To install VLC
Go to the VLC site and download the player for your operating system. Many different operating systems are supported including Windows , Mac OS X and various Linux distributions. Click HERE for the download page.
After you have selected your operating system , click on any of the downloads to start downloading VLC.
Now that you have downloaded VLC , open the download to start the installation. You may get a security warning to which you select "run".
Click next on the welcome page of the wizard , and then read the license and click I agree.
Now Select the installation method you would like. For the average user , the recommended installation will be sufficient and click next when ready.
Now select the installation directory. The default directory will be fine.
When ready , click Install and VLC media player will be installed and ready for use.
All your media files will now automatically have the VLC icon displayed on them and when double clicked , automatically play with VLC. Alternatively , a file to be played can be dragged into VLC player.
