Several things could be the cause but lets start with the easiest first. check the filter to see if it is clean. if so then you need to see if the coils behind the filter are clean. a blockage of air flow will cause the unit to freeze up. If the coils look dirty then you can purchase a coil cleaner (aerosol) from a home improvement store or an a/c supply house and follow the directions on how to clean. These coils should look nice and shiny. If all of the above mentioned are in good shape then you possibly have a low charge of freon in the system. In that case an a/c tech will bee required since the usage of freon is only to be done by certified techs.
