How do i change my password on my Netgear WNR1000 wireless router?

  1. Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password is password or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
  2. From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router Manager, select Set Up > Wireless Settings.
  3. From the center screen, select your encryption type from under the Security Options heading.

    • If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
    • If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.

Recently we had WIFI installed in our business. The pass code is a huge alpha numeric number that is rediculous for us to give our customers for internet access. How can i change this passcode?

You'll have to log-in to the wireless router. If it is an off-the-shelf router you can consult the documentation or use a search engine to find out the default username and password for the router. For example, if you have, say, a Netgear WGR614v9, you would Google "default username and password for Netgear WGR614v9" You will also need to know what to type into your web browser, such as http://www.routerlogin.net (for a Netgear).

However, if someone set the router up for you, they most likely and should have changed the password if not also the username. You may have to call them to find out that info. If the ISP installed the router, call them.

Once signed-in to the router look for something like "wireless settings" or similar. Then just change the passphrase.

Be advised that making the passphrase shorter or easy to remember jeopardizes your network security. If you have any valuable data on your network you shouldn't be letting customers on it without taking precautions.

We cannot log on with the assigned password

Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin)and password by default the password is 1234 unless it has already been changed
from the left-hand navigation menu of the router manager, select wireles set up>wireless settings
from the center screen, select your encrytion type from under the Security Options heading
if the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log on devices onto your network.
If it is not visible you can change your wireless passphrase but changing your passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection
Connect your computer to the router using an Ethernet Cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking apply.
If you cannot log into your router:Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings.

Restoring factory defaults on a device will erase any customizations you have made. You will lose any configurations saved to the device!

From the center screen, select your encryption type from under the Security Options heading.

If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.

If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.
