Battery Canon PowerShot SD200 battery won't keep charge. Bought new replacement battery, same problem. Cleaned terminals with soft cloth on both battery and charger but problem continues.

Camera won't turn on at all now, even though battery charger indicates battery is charged

  • Anonymous Jul 12, 2008

Camera won't turn on at all now, even though I have 2 fully charged batteries. Battery indicator show full. Camera hasn't been dropped or damaged. Worked fine a few weeks ago. Haven't even had this for one year yet!

I haven't tried any solutions to rectify the problem because I don't know what to try.

To quote Imaging-Resouce.com: He only got about 100 minutes off his battery. Here's what he said: Slightly better than average battery life for a compact model, but think about buying a second battery anyway. The Canon Powershot SD200 uses a custom rechargeable LiIon battery for power, and uses a custom power adapter, so I couldn't perform my usual direct measurements of its power consumption, but did check how long it would run on a fully charged battery. Like most compact digicams, battery life on the SD200 is a little on the short side, with a worst-case run time (capture mode, with the LCD turned on) of 107 minutes by actual measurement. This is better than many compact and subcompact models, but I'd still strongly recommend purchasing a second battery along with the camera, and keeping it charged as a spare. (Digicam batteries always die at the worst possible times.)
I found this for cheap "Replacement Camera Battery for Canon Powershot SD200 " SKU NB4L103719 $5.42 + s/h at Become.com To increase battery life, turn off unnecessary features like any beep feature, reduce the picture review display time, etc. How many minutes are you getting out of it?

If your camera came with an AC power cord you could try to power on using a working wall outlet. If it doesn't power on then we know it's not the batteries.

btw - I had trouble with my digital camera after my 2 year old dropped it. Maybe give your camera to a child for a minute and they may jar something back into place. Ha Ha. Just kidding. I ended up buying a duplicate refurbished camera from ebay. I figured I already knew how it was supposed to work and already had all the manuals and equipment so a duplicate worked for me.

Best wishes mate ~ blasted technology!

Canon G11 won't start

Possible Solutions.
1. Charge the battery
2. If still not turning on, try using a little rubbing alcohol and wiping the battery terminal(s) on the battery and the battery terminals in the camera. Use a QTip and allow to completely dry before recharging the battery or inserting it into the camera.
2. Replace the battery with new one.
3. On/Off switch may be defective on camera. Charger may be defective. Wire connecting power from charger to wall socket may be improperly connected or loose.

When I charged the battery, it seemed to have no charge as soon as I removed it from the charger. So I bought a new battery and that is doing the same thing. Do you think the charger is at fault? I don't...

Ideally it will be good to have the voltage checked a the pin of the charger. if the voltage is good then connect to the camera and check the voltage at the battery terminals inside the camera. If this is lower than the specified battery voltage then the adapter is faulty. If not there can be some error's in the camera charger control circuit in the camera.- hoping that your battery is the OE type.

New batteries only give me one or two stots and then the camera says change the batteries. Could this be a camera fault. I can't go on returningf batteries to the store. Please help

Hi

The Canon PowerShot A400 is quite an old camera now and whilst it may not be the camera it could be another part of the kit.

If you are using rechargeable AA batteries, which should give the best performance, it could be the battery charger has lost it's ability to charge the batteries.

If you are using standard AA Alkaline batteries, check the battery terminals in the camera, as it could be they are dirty and need to be cleaned.

Hope this helps

I bought my canon S5IS 2 years ago.For these 2 years it worked fine but now it is showing "Low battery problem" even when the battery is full charged.I also bought new batteries but that also in...

Make sure that the battery terminals in your camera are clean (rub them with a pencil eraser, q-tip or micro fiber cloth). Dirty terminals can cause poor contact with your batteries, therefore, impacting there performance.

Also, if you are using rechargeable batteries, your batteries may simply need replaced. Try testing the camera with a new set of alkaline or NiMH batteries.

My digital camera screen doesn't show a picture at all, not sure if my son dropped it or what???....also my battery charger CB-2LV/CB-2LVE ( NB-4L ) has short circuited & won't charge the...

First of all, have you tried pressing the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera? Next, if your camera's battery is more than a couple years old, it's time for a new battery. Fortunately, inexpensive generic versions of the NB-4L are widely available these days. Here's some from Amazon. Read the user reviews as some generics are better than others. And if your charger truly has shorted out (again I'd check the battery first), here's some generic chargers from Amazon.
