Can connect desktop to internet but having trouble connecting laptop to internet

First of all get your connection to teh laptop from the router wired. Then, please ping the routers IP ( Start --> Run -- > cmd --> ping 192.168.x.x.)
Look at the manual for routers IP address.
If you are getting four replies, you have a valid connection, else, try changing cables or ports in the router.
Once this is done remove the cable, try wireless. To do that, ensure, to start off, there is no security on the router. Repeat the ping procedure keeping the router closer to the laptop ( for a good signal strength )
If you are not going online yet, let me know what happens.
hope this helps
Thanks

Connect my Lynksys WRT54G2 Router with my Belkin (F5D6231-4)

You can connect 2 routers to each other. But the IP address will be different for both the routers .
It will be better to keep different names for the wireless network.
If you keep the same name, then it doesn't mean that the signal strength will be good. Because both the routers will broadcast their own signals.
If you want to increase the signal strength then you can purchase a wireless range expander.

I have a Belkin Wireless adaptor and a wireless router. The netgear adaptor I had before on my desktop got borken so I replaced with a Belkin adaptor. The new Belkin adaptor is not recognizing the wireless...

Hi, did you provide the network key/password when you setup the wireless conection on your computer? Is it detecting your wireless router (you should see your SSID or network name) when you click on your wireless icon (in the taskbar) and chose "show wireless connections". If you can acess to your router via it's configuration page(type the router's default IP address in your browser) you can go check the settings and change the key/passphrase if you dont remember it. If all of this is not working, you can also start from stratch. Reset the router to factory settings (check your manual) then reconfigure it the way you want, put the new infos in your wireless network connections properties and try again. let me know with more specific details if you still cant do it

Belkin wireless router not assigning IPs for wireless clients

Some routers start handing out DHCP wireless IP's at 192.168.2.100. Try setting the upper limit at .110. If the router is found in a site survey (view wireless networks) but cannot connect, the limitation would be why.

SONY VAIO VGN-NR21Z DOESN'T SEE WIFI

Be sure that your wifi button is ON
Be sure that your wireless network is working
Check your wireless router settings
Check if you see any other wireless network available on your computer

Test connection, see if you pulled an IP address
  1. Go to the Windows desktop
  2. Select Start then Run
  3. In the text box type: cmd (WIN98/SE type command)
At the command prompt type: ipconfig
4. What does it read as the IP address?
* If it reads 192.168. something dot something then you are pulling
an IP address and are connected to the network. The problem is
software related, check your firewall, and wireless card configuration.
Also check any WPA or WEP encryption keys. Check with the respective
manufactures.
* If it reads 0.0.0.0 for the IP address you are not connected to the network.
* Check your connection configuration and the adaptor.
* Check with the respective manufactures.

STEP TWO/ Basic troubleshooting continued....Testing the adaptor

1. Go to Windows desktop
2. Select Start then Run
3. In the text box type: cmd (WIN98/SE type command)
A DOS window will open.
4. At the prompt type: ping 127.0.0.1 (reserved IP address for all adaptors)
5. Check the line that reads "packets sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0

A. Zero is good, the adaptor is working. Again check the connection
configuration,and the adaptor configuration.
It may be a power issue especially with older or less expensive computers
or wireless cards.
* Check the antenna location, are you inside or outside, look for interference.
* Check with the respective manufactures.

B. If it reads all 4 packets lost, the adaptor is not functioning.
* Check and update the drivers, Contact the respective manufactures.
* If it shows any number of packets lost (you are dropping packets)
it is an adaptor or signal strength issue (generally form the laptop side,
not being able to reach back) especially with older or less expensive
computers or wireless cards.
* Update the drivers
* Check antenna location, or distance from the signal
* Contact the respective manufactures.

Wireless connection

Go to your PC.

Start --> Run -- > cmd -->ipconfig. Chk the ip address in the default gateway. From ur laptop. chk if you can ping that ip. To ping -- Start --> Run --> cmd -- > ping xxx.xxx.xx.x.

If you cant ping it, just means there is no communicaition betwen the router and the computer. Meanwhile, make sure that the laptop is close enough to the router and you have a good signal strength.
