I need a owner's manual for a early 80's Troy-bilt Horse tiller It hasn't been used for a couple of years and we can't get it started. Want to make sure I have the correct spark plug and the correct fuel and etc. for running it. It's been very reliable, and I want to put a garden in. I have someone who helps me but he doesn't know about repair or maintenance of the tiller. THIS IS NOT A PONY BUT A HORSE. THIS WAS NOT A CHOICE ON YOUR STUPID PRODUCT LIST

Ebay has manuals on CD for $6.99 with free shipping. If the spark plug is firing when you crank the engine you probably have a gummed up carburater and it will have to be cleaned. They will do this when they set for a while. Not sure if that will have points and condenser or not but if it does and will not fire they will have to be cleaned or possible replaced also.

Hi! i have older troybilt rear tine tiller and would like tires and if possible a owners manuel the only serial # i could find is 464932. do you have access to older parts for equipment such as mine?...

http://www.mtdparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/OperatorManualView?storeId=10101&catalogId=19502&langId=-1

Go to the above website and put in your model and serial number. If it is a Horse tiller just type in Horse and your serial number and you can download a copy of your operator manual. If it is the Horse model it was built between 1/1/80 and 7/1/80. i believe you have a Horse II four speed model that will just have one drive belt the older Horse I tillers were two speed with two belts.
Most any good tire shop can supply tires for your tiller or you can order them online and take then to a shop to mount for you. If your tires are not real bad they can just put tubes in them so they will hold air. Almost all parts are available through MTD who owns the Troy Bilt name now or through many sites online.

Good Luck,

When the clutch is disengaged the tines still turn.

If you email me at [email protected] I have a couple of Econo-Horse manuals that I downloaded that I can email to you. They don't really have a clutch just belts and pulleys so its probably just needing a new belt or a belt tension adjustment. I have a Econo-Horse tiller and it is a nice machine I think mine is about the same age as yours.

Good Luck,

Owners namules

Go to this website and type in Horse for your model number.Just put thenumber 1 in for your serial number and it will bring up several horse tiller manuals. If yours is a 1976 then it should be
a Horse I model. This should be a two speed tiller and have two drive belts.

What year Troy Built Horse Tiller

The serial number is stamped on the upper right hand side of the gear housing. It is on a flat spot just above the wheel shaft. If it is a newer model it will be on a white sticker on top of the gear housing plate. If it has the T handle it is probably an older 1980's model. If you find the six digit number I can give you the year it was made.

Troy Bilt Tiller tines do not engage

You likely have a clutch problem, never saw one that a simple adjustment would fix. I'd take off the tiller (there are two bolts that hold the tiller portion to the transmission, and check to make sure the clutch is sliding in and out. My hunch is either the lever is loose on the shaft or the allen-head little bolt that they use to shift the clutch has come out. Be sure to grease the clutch while you're in there.

This should be covered in your owners manual. Shame on them if they didn't mention this.
