My power cord that plugs into car outlet was lost. I purchased a universal plug in. When it is plugged into the car outlet it shows a garmin display and a picture of a computer with a cord going to the GPS? The gps will not work when plugged into the car outlet. Once disconnected it will come on and work ok? What going on.

If you have access to an ohm meter then you can verify if the plug is good or bad and you can use a volt meter to verify that the outlet is working or not. The first video shows a generic way to ohm out an extension cord. this will also work with yours. The second shows you how to check voltage at an outlet.

Make sure you have your time and time zone set to match your area. Also look in display settings to see if it is set to night mode versus auto adjust.

Look around the rear of the Range for a long black cord.. on the end of that cord should be a plug that fits into a standard 120 volt household power outlet.
Grasp firmly the plug end, line up the flat and round prongs with the like holes in the household outlet, and insert the plug into the outlet.
In the unused portion of the outlet, plug in something simple like a lamp or any portable kitchen appliance just to test the power is working.
Your Range Control Panel & Display should now light up, and maybe beep once or twice to confirm it's working.

It could be a problem with the mini USB plug on the charger. If it doesn't go in far enough it will cause that problem. Try pushing it in further. If that doesn't work you'll need to get a Garmin power cord.

The fuse you need is an AGC/3AG 2-amp 1500 A-rated fuse. lt should be available from garmin dealers.

Are you looking for the cord that plugs into the the electrical outlet that connects to the external power supply? Or are you are looking for the external power supply as well? If you are looking for just the cord itself, they should be common item that you should be able to purchase and any appliance store.

If you are looking for the cord and the external power supply, there are many online outlets that you can look like ebay, etc. You need to search for a 15 Volt 4 amp universal power supply. I would recommend the universal power supply since it will come with multiple adapters plugs so you should be able to find the right one to fit your monitor. Also note the polarity of the the plug otherwise it might damage your monitor.

It has gone into "Mass Storage Mode" because it thinks it is connected to a computer. Are you using something other than the Garmin power cord such as a cell phone charger?

I had the same problem. When you have your nuvi plugged into your cigarette lighter it doesn't charge. Your battery is probaly near dead. I called Garmin and they told me to plug it into my computer via the usb cable. Turn the Garmin off and let it charge for several hours. That did the trick

Buy a adapter for your cigarette lighter socket that has multiple sockets with one that will fit the Garmin adapter.

Are you using a Garmin plug?
If not get one.

Are you using the factory supplied Power cord or a standard Sony-type plug?
