Maytag Neptune Error COde "nd"

I keep getting the error code "nd" in the middle of my wash cycle. What does this mean? Also, the washer does not completely drain all of the water out upon completion of the cycle, leaving the clothes wet.

nd in middle of cycle not draining

I have the same exact problem as Lee Y's and don't use Dependable Appliance Service in Staten Island. The service guy said Speed Control Board was shot and go buy a new machine. Dosen't make sense to my husband and I. Is there a way to fix this? And does anyone know the capacity size? Maytag is offering 50% off the part if you wish to order directly through them.  Not sure what to order, need help.

I had the nd error code at the beginning of the rinse cycle. I found a small key and a wad of carpit material, very easy fix. The only thing that I could add is that I scooped out of the tub as much of the water as I could unsing a quart sized (aprox.) container, from the tub and removing the clothes, prior to removing the discharge hose from the pump, this cut down the amout of excess water that was spilt on the garage floor.

This is now the 3rd time this has happened. The 1st 2 times it cost me ~$100 to have a technician come in and fix.

This time, I did it easily. For my Maytag Neptune washer, I removed the back panel (2 screws). On the bottom tray is the water discharge pump. On the output side of the pump there is a small cavity under the rubber flapper where a nickle fits perfectly. I removed the nickle, reattached the output drain line. started it up ...

and viola! the problem solved.

  • Anonymous May 27, 2012

Thanks for the good advice. We had the same error code on our Neptune washer, and found a rubber band in the pump, just under the flap, like you said. Just to be clear (for the next reader) you have to remove the outflow drain pipe from the pump housing to expose the flapper-value (and under it, the nickel, or hairball, or in our case, rubber band, that is causing the problem.). Thanks everybody for sharing. Definitely an easy fix, and it saved us having a service guy come, since of course he would have replaced both the computer and the sensor and the pump itself, and charged us an arm and a leg!

I just wanted to say thanks! Had the same exact problem with the washer showing the ND code. After researching the issue online and finding this site, I told my hubby the troubleshooting others did and bam! A quarter was in the small chamber right off the pump!!!! Reattached and am so happy and proud to say, she's working like a champ! Thanks everyone! Try this before you call a serviceman! We are completely "fix it" challenged and was able to get it going within a matter of minutes!!!

Thank you so much for your posts. After reading through I printed off the suggestions and lo-and-behold there was a "Cabelas" token for games that fit like a flapper valve in the piping (my husband first thought it was a valve). Popped it out and my washer works again! Amen!

This was very helpful. I had the same problem--washer hanging in the middle of the cycle without draining and "nd" code showing. In my case I had to disassemble the entire drainage pump at the bottom of the washer: a rubber band had gotten wrapped up around the pump rotor, preventing it from spinning. However, it would have torn if I just pulled it through the outlet port, so I undid the inlet port also (use plenty of rags and ease it and the outlet tube out slowly, since whatever water you can't remove from the front is going to come out from there). Then the pump comes out by rotating the whole pump counterclockwise about 90 degrees and pulling up when it can't turn anymore. Then I unscrewed the three screws that hold the pump motor and the liquid enclosure together and had easy access to the rotor.

Great advice here! My wife and I manually emptied the water in the drum, disconnected the lines and tipped it forward. Took off the big panel on the back and then took off the drain hose from the pump. Pulled out a mangled toddler sock (ok the wife was right this time...the washing machine did eat a sock :) Thanks

SOURCE: Maytag Neptune Error COde "nd"

I had a similar problem until it finally gave up draining altogether. I took the drain pump apart and found that a quarter was jammed in the pump after it broke a vain off. I don't know how the quarter got past the basket but this was definitely my problem.

SOURCE: Maytag Neptune Error COde "nd"

I had the exact same problem. nd code (no-drain) at the end of the cycle and when I opened the door the machine was still full of water. I took the back panel off the washer and disconnected the drain hose from the pump. (You're going to get quite a bit of water gushing out at you so be prepared with towels or a shop vac.) At this point you should see a little rubber disc over the end of the section you just exposed on the pump. This is a little drain flap. Just lift it up and you should be able to see into the pump a little bit. At this point I poked around in there with my finger and found a hair pin stuck in the pump! I wasn't able to get it out from this end of the pump so I disconnected the big rubber boot which connects the wash drum to the pump. Then I was able to twist the pump (counter clock-wise) and release it from the washer base. I didn't have to disconnect any wires and was then able to see into the other side of the pump and pull the hairpin out. Put everything back together and it's worked fine ever since. I've never even looked inside a washing machine before but it really was really fairly simple. Now my husband really does think I'm a domestic Goddess. I said he should take me out to dinner with the money we saved on a service call!!

My Maytag Neptune washer has "np" flashing. The door is locked and the cycle is not complete

Are you sure this is not an nd and not an np flash code? If so then the code stands for no drain, likely something is clogging the washer pump inlet.

What does the code od mean?

The "od" code appears when you must open the washer door. The Maytag Neptune washer requires that you open the door between cycles.

Nd keeps coming up

Hello,

The ND error code means NO DRAIN. To see why the ND code keeps coming up the drain pump needs to be checked for a partial blockage.

May tag Neptune showing codes

Error codes appear when there are problems with the door, the inflow and drainage of water and the motor.

Do
Your Maytag Neptune washer displays the "do" help code when the washing machine is trying to start a cycle, but the door is open or not locked properly. If this message is displayed, close the door securely and restart the washing cycle.

FL
The "FL" code indicates that the washing machine was unable to lock the door after you closed it. Open and close the door tightly, then restart the washing cycle.

Sd
The "Sd" code indicates that you have added too much detergent to the washing machine and your laundry has too many suds. The machine will stop displaying this code if it has successfully run the suds recovery cycle, which removes the excess suds from the wash load. If the code remains, reduce the amount of detergent in the load. Use less detergent for similar loads of laundry in the future.

PF
The "PF" code indicates that a power failure has occurred. Restart the wash cycle. If the code still appears, check that the washing machine is still plugged in to the electrical outlet.

Nd
The "nd" code indicates that your Maytag Neptune is not draining as it should. Check that the drain hose isn't kinked and that the stand pipe isn't clogged. If you find either of these problems, fix them before restarting the washing cycle.

LO
The "LO" code appears when the washing machine has finished the selected wash cycle, but cannot unlock the door. Verify that the door is closed properly, push the "Off" button, and wait two minutes. The door should unlock and the error code will disappear. If the error code remains, unplug the washing machine, wait two minutes and plug it back into the electrical outlet.

Lr
The "Lr" code indicates that the washing machine's motor is not running as it should. Have your Maytag Neptune washing machine serviced by a certified Maytag repair professional. Maytag Neptune Priority One Service: (888) 462-9824

NF
The "nF" code appears when the washing machine has tried to fill with water and has failed. Verify that the inlet hoses aren't kinked and that the faucets are fully open.

Od
The "od" code appears when you must open the washer door. The Maytag Neptune washer requires that you open the door between cycles.

Someone put some heavy things in it and it stopped mid-cycle. We removed the heavy objects, and then attempted to drain the leftover water by putting it on "rinse and spin." It never really...

The ND error code on a digital Neptune front load washer. The ND code means 'No Drain' and it is probably just something caught in the pump. Sometimes this is a early sign of the pump going out or a control board issue.

I keep getting the error code nd on my Maytag neptune whats this mean?

Error ND means that there is a drain problem.

Either there is debris inside drain pump hose, or the pump itself is faulty.

The problem is fixed accessing the drain pump hose to check for a blockage.

Keep a container ready to collect water when you undo pump hose.

Stops mid-cycle, does not drain, displays nd error code?

Hello.
That code is telling you that the unit is draining to slow. After 15 minutes it is not below the low water level and will not spin out. The best repair for this is to replaced the pump on your unit.
