The only way to tell is to start a print and power off when print is still inside. If you see the ghost before the fuser it's the drum, if clean before the fuser, it's the fuser. You can also open the back door and look at the fuser roller with a light, the fuser roller should be clean but if the roller has images it's time for a fuser.

I suspect you have people taking the blank pages that print out after a fax and feeding them back through the printer to save paper. The old paper picks up a charge when fed through the first time, pulls toner up the second like a magnet, and deposits the toner onto the toner drum. When the next sheet comes through, the image pulled from the last sheet (or the sheet before) and is transferred over the new image. Change your toner and print several pages to the printer, see if the image fades and goes away. If it does, tell people to either stop feeding the blank pages through, or to at least turn them over and put them at the bottom of the paper stack. This will give it time to dissipate the charge before feeding back through.

Ghost image on a hp CM1415

Two reasons for ghost image
1. Toner cartridge faulty.
There is a part in toner cartridge called Drum cleaner (also called as tractor blade), if this part not clean the drum surface properly ghost image will form on drum & it will transfers on paper..
2. Fuser assm faulty.
There is a part in fuser assembly called Teflon sleeve. If toner particles deposited on teflon sleeve you may get ghost image..

Hp laser jet 3015, 7 horizontal lines, with ghost images printing/copying.

Hi:

Ghost images or repetitive image defects can be caused by one of two things. Either your toner cartridge is defective or your fuser is bad. The fuser is the component that heats up and fuses the toner to the paper. To determine which one it is do this. Start to print or copy something and shut off the printer just as the paper is going under the image drum but before it enters the fuser. If the problem you described is evident on the paper at this point then the problem is related to the drum. If the problem is not showing up on the paper at this point then the fuser is the culprit and it most likely would cost more then the unit is worth to repair.

My samsung ML 2510 prints a black streak on each plus a watermark from previous page

If your paper setting are set corectly (normal paper) and you are getting a "ghost image" from the previous page, most likley the fuser is the problem. On rare occasions, the drum unit could be the culpret (Black lines) down the sides of the page as you indicated.
You may have 2 problems.

I would change the toner drum 1st. If the black lines go away ,yet the ghost image continues, then change the fuser as well.

Ghost printing

Hello,

You have a worn image drum. The drum is the part of the printer that the print image is created on before it transfers the toner to the paper. This part is coated with a very thin layer of Teflon so the toner does not stick. When it gets worn the toner starts to stick and that produces the shadow or ghost image approximately 3 inches down the page because the diameter of the drum roller is 3 inches. You will need to get the part DR-350, Office Depot has them as well as many places on the internet.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Poor print quality

The "ghost" image is "burned" onto the drum.

A laser printer is supposed to charge specific "dots" on the drum, and the toner-ink is supposed to stick only to those "dots", the paper is pressed against the drum, and then the "fuser" uses heat to "melt" the toner-ink onto the paper, to produce the printed page.

You need to replace the drum.

Ghostly effect

If drum is a genuine Brother, then open the rear door and look at the fuser rollers, if you see toner or partial images on the rollers you need a new fuser, if the fuser is clean, look at the drum surface and if you see parts of last print then the drum is bad. In reports, print the user options list it will give the total print count. The fuser is worn out around 80 to 100,000 prints.

HP 3015 laser printer with ghost image

A fuser image should only be about 1 1/2 inches away, 3 inches sounds like a drum problem.

Ghosting can :

2-blanking lamps dirty or not working,(deletes image off the drum, before it gets ready to accept a new one)

3-Bad drum (although I doubt it this far in the process.)
