My ps3 is not reading anny blu ray games or movies. it will play ps2 and regular movies. What is the problem

the blu ray player uses a magnified lens ( likely used in ps3 games too) which is not used when playing ps2 or regular dvds...why they work, any spec or suface wear to the lens will cause the system not to read the discs) , a cleaning disc wont work as the ps3 wont recognize what it is and not play it... only solution i found was to send in for service , which costs @ 150 bucks! I hope this helps

sounds like a dead Laser they are a dual laser will read DVDs n CDs but wont read Blueray movies or PS3 games Laser might need replacing

try setting the console back to factory settings, i had the oposite problem, would play games but not movies. will it play blu-ray movies or regular? if it doesnt play blu-rays, your disc reader may have gone bad.

If it won't play blu rays either it'll mean your blu ray laser is gone (inside the ps3 there is one for blu rays and one for dvds cds etc)

Talk to Sony about it

You need a new blu-ray laser. model number kes 400aaa. takes about 30mins to change out.

You're blu-ray drive has partially died. It's a three part laser (cd, dvd, blu-ray). The most important part of yours has died that's why you can still play dvd and PS2 games because they use the dvd laser and not the blu-ray.

Check for scratches on the game disc.

Could be an overheating issue.. Is there enough air circulation around the unit? Is it possibly dusty? try and perform minor servicing (use a can of compressed air incase if there's dust causing problems)

Does this happen on regular dvd's ?

PS2 games and DVD movies are still region encoded. Your Japanese PS3 will not play them.

It will play Blu-ray games from any region or and Region 1 blu-ray movie.
