Are you using the power door locks after the car is turned off?
This too (I find) will engage the alarm, automatically.

in my opinion, the jeep factory supplied alarm system is not "normal"
i am still trying to figure out how to permanently disengage

excerpt from the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Service Manual

(note, VTSS means Vehicle Theft Security System)

    Arming

Passive arming of the VTSS occurs when the vehicle is exited with the key removed from the ignition switch, the headlamps are turned off, and the doors are locked using power lock switch. The power lock switch will not function if the key is in the ignition switch or the headlamps are on with the driver’s door open. The VTSS will not arm if either front door or the liftgate are locked using the key in the lock cylinder.

Active arming of the VTSS occurs when the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is used to lock the vehicle, even if the doors and/or the liftgate are open when the RKE transmitter Lock button is depressed. However, the VTSS arming will not be complete until all the doors and the liftgate are closed.

Following successful passive or active VTSS arming, the VTSS set lamp on the top of the instrument panel will flash rapidly for about 15 seconds after the illuminated entry system times out. This indicates that the VTSS arming is in progress. If the light stays on steadily during the arming, it indicates that the hood switch is closed (the hood is open). The VTSS will still arm if the hood is open, but the engine compartment will not be protected. Once the 15 second arming function is complete, the set lamp will flash at a slower rate to indicate that the VTSS is armed.”

I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the alarm goes off whenever i open the door if the vehicle has been locked the alarm stops when i start the vehicle i only have a key, no remote any ideas on how to fix...

If ithe alarm is factory when they will have to reset the alarm module with a scanner. If the alarm if aftermarket go to the control module and see if it has a reset button. FOBs (remote) can reset alarm. You Jeep is always set for break-in mode. The FOB sets this when ever the FOB is used to lock the doors. May be bad alarm module - Sorry - Good luck

Remote on '99 Jeep Cherokee not working...

Normally you can get the alarm to shut off by puttin ght key in the ignition or in the door and turning. The remote will need programed with the vehicle. Should run about 50.00 or so for service department to do this. My wife has a '99 cherokee and it did the same thing. I know the remote is the problem.

Jeep alarm will not turn off

The ignition security on/off is located at the trunk lock. unlock and lock rear gate and the alarm will turn off. My jeep sat in my drive for a month before a jeep tech told me this. It still triggers the security sometimes when I unlock the passenger door with the key and I go straight to the rear gate lock and it shuts off instantly.
