My zanussi dishwasher won't drain,the water is sitting at the bottom of it as the kids opened it and a cycle wasn't finished and the water won't drain

Your dishwasher is a sophisticated device that registered most failures. The End of cycle LED flashes if there are alarms memorized. So, count how many times the End of cycle LED flashes.
For example:
One flash - i10, the problem with water intake
Two flashes - i20, a problem wit drain water
Three flashes - i30, activated anti-flooding device
..... and so on

pull out your bottom rack, in one of the bottom corners of your dishwasher there will be a circular plastic piece. it is probably stuck in the up position . Wiggle it around, it should sit loosely in place. It's a float, so when water fills in your washer, the float should raise up, when the water is draining, the float should lower with the water. That's why the float should be sitting loose in position.

A dishwasher will never drain all the way. It is designed to hold water as to not let the pump run dry and keeps the seals preserved.

Belt, Water Pump Although few dishwashers have a water pump belt, if the dishwasher won't drain there might be a worn or broken water pump belt. After removing the lower kick panel the motor can be seen in the front, the water pump belt is on the bottom of the motor.

Drain Pump If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain pump might be defective. Test the pump motor with an Ohm meter. Drain pumps are not repairable, if it's defective it will need to be replaced.

Drain Impeller The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher, through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.

Well first of all you can check the Water-inlet valve
Most cleaning problems are caused by the dishwasher not getting enough wash water, so the water-inlet valve is often to blame. This valve is usually at the bottom left or right of the dishwasher, behind the lower access panel. It's the device with the main water line from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two wires attached to it. When a water-inlet valve is defective, you may hear the sound that's usually referred to as "water hammer." If the water-inlet valve is defective, you need replace it.
After then you can check the Drain valve,  that should open only during draining. If debris lodges in the valve, it can't close properly, so water drains out during the wash cycle. Most dishwashers drain into the garbage disposer. If yours does that, listen for water flowing into the disposer during the wash cycle. If you can hear it then, the drain valve may be clogged.

I just had this problem with a zanussi dishwasher - I opened it this afternoon to find the bottom full of water - luckily not deep enough to flood my kitchen when I opened the door. I determined that the sink drain was clear (ran water, could hear it going down the drain outside), so the problem had to be in the dishwasher or drain hose. I poured just a little mr muscle sink & plughole unblocker in the bottom of the machine where the trap is, left it about 30 mins as per instructions, followed by a little boiled water - no difference. Scooped out the water, removed the filter (the big round bit, not just the trap that you pull out and empty) and scooped out till I could see what appears to be the out pipe. Thought what the heck and ran a rinse cycle - no dishes, no detergent and lower tray and arm thing removed for convenience. Water drained just fine, ran a second rinse cycle which got rid of the suds from the plughole unblocker. I now have an extremely clean and sparkling dishwasher and am about to run a load of dishes through it.

I hope that my post is helpful to you, I don't know if all the steps are necessary, it may have been a freak occurrence that would have gone away with a simple rinse cycle. It may of course be a problem with the pump on yours, I was hoping that wasn't the case on mine, and I had lots of old towels on hand in case water came out when I opened the door. But it's possible your machine has the same problem as mine and that this info works for you, I hope that is the case.

You need to reset the computer on the bottom. Had the same problem with mine. The Blinking led means the heating element is bad and will not operate.
