The switch controlling the burner is just a voltage controlling unit (rheostat). It needs to be replaced

I would try replacing switch for that burner. But it also could be a defective burner.

Frigidaire plef398ccc displayed 'er' now won't heat cooktop/oven

You could have a problem with the user interface board, which is #97A in the attaced breakdown, part #316225039500. Hope this helps.

The burners work but they are really not very hot. I am used to a gas range but this is crazy

if you have a ceramic cooktop now the elements will cycle on and off at whatever heat level you have them set at. it does take some getting used to especially after a gas appliance where you expect instant heat. a lot of people don't like them, i have had one now for several years and i did get used to it. so hang in there.

Frigidaire ceramic cooktop burner turned on by itself

It is the burner control (behind the knob). The triac in the control has failed. $50 item, 10 minute change. Just make note which wire goes to which terminal.

I doubt that it is the control board, as the board has little to do with the stove top, but rather controls the display and the oven temperature/feedback monitoring.

Hope this helps.

Burner will not turn off

You'll need to replace the burner switch. This happens when the contacts become fused together.
