I need to access the onscreen menu for an Hitachi SVHS recorder without the remote.
I
have an Hitatchi SVHS recorder that I bought used. The remote was
working fine but then stopped. After changing batteries and trying all
universal remote codes with separate remote, the unit stopped receiving
the IR signal.
I sort of know why. I was in the menu trying to figure setting out and on option 4 it changed from VCR 1 to VCR 2
After that the remote stopped working.
The
manual I downloaded mentions that if the remote does not function the
VCR number was changed in the menu. It states to go to the menu to
change it. However this unit does not seem to have ANY menu buttons on
the unit itself.
I have left the unit unplugged for 12 hours but that did not reset it.
SO if the remote was the only way to get the on screen to come up, then how can I reset back to VCR1?
Thanks for the input. But come one, you really saying they designed it so poorly that the only way to reset the menu settings is by a remote? If my remote is locked out, how would hitting the button I do not have (VCR1/VCR2) work? There is a hole in the front right that you can stick a little rod in and a it will turn the machine on and off, Why wouldn't this reset the machine settings?
Afraid only the original remote will fix this. All universals and aftermarket remotes will not have the function you need. try going here www.vancebaldwin.com and use there remote finder and see if they have the one you need

Thanks for the input. They want $120 for this remote. I found the hole in the front right that you can stick a plastic rod in and hit a button. The machine turns on and off. This seems to be a reset but do not seem to fix anything, Why wouldn't a reset button reset the menu and is this info stored in EEPROM and never will reset even after a month.
Is this design so bad that you only can use the remote to change back?
I have a hitachi remote that was working but does not have a vcr1/vcr2 button. Are you saying this button is the key. That if I hit it I will be able to control the vcr? Why on earth would they only allow the remote to control the menu this way. Bad design for sure.
Solution for VT-S772a remote lock out.
I discovered a code and my Radio Shack 6-1 touchscreen remote was upgradeable.
You need to seek a remote that can do 166 or 0166
The CS knew about this issue and called it a SISTER CODE. While my particular remote did not have the full features I had enough to get to the menu and switch it back to the remote I had with more features. While I still do not have a full function I can at least controls some of the needed features like line source.
I still need tape speed. button,
Now I find I have a recording issue that I will post elsewhere.
Same here. I got a second-hand Hitachi VTFX630A VHS VCR but do not have the original remote control. I can use a universal remote to get basic function of the VCR but having problem locating a function key for the tape speed button.
