Several people I've seen here have posted the same exact problem...turn on TV, here small popping sound, NO SOUND comes from speakers. Sometimes it corrects itself by turning TV on and off again...mostly it doesn't work. I found a place to order parts, but I've no idea which sound parts to order, as there are around 6 or 7 of them. PLEASE HELP!!!
I had the same problem on my 37" Aquos. Sound went out about 8 months ago after 4 years. Technician said it was the Sound Power Supply. Total cost to fix was $440. $250 for the power supply and $170 for labor. Has worked fine ever since. When I asked for the old power supply he said he had to give it back as a trade in. I don't believe that so I don't really know if the power supply was the real cause.
Now I've lost sound on 4 channels on my 20" Aquos. Great picture, but wouldn't buy another Sharp product.
OK all, try this as a first step....
First - The usual disclaimer about all at your own risk.
Second - You MUST disconnect the TV from its wall socket and leave it all day (at least 12Hrs) to ensure the power supply is discharged - Safety First.
Third - A major rule of all repair says DO NOT play with or disconnect parts that are working. "If it aint broke don't fix it"
1. Download the service manual... http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/31693/Sharp_LC-26D4U.html It comes in 13 parts that must all be downloaded and then the manual can be extracted using winrar or similar program.
2. Ensure you are working in a static free environment - use an antistatic wrist strap attached to the chassis metalwork or you will do more harm than good, you can even kill you TV completely.
3.Follow page 14&15 to remove back cover.
4. Refer to page 56, then re-seat all the connectors attached to the AV unit by partially unplugging them and re-inserting them. Make sure they are re-seated firmly. Do not force anything.
5. Put the back cover on and try see if the problem is fixed, if your lucky the problem is solved.
6, Try gently manipulating the cables around the AV card, sometimes it a simple broken wire. Look up wiring part numbers on page 56 of the manual if you need buy new ones. Parts can be bought here http://www.partstore.com/
7. If not then the whole AV card probably needs to be replaced.
All the parts are listed starting on page 100 of the service manual. Manual says AV card for LC-37D4U is part # DUNTKD352DE19 http://www.partstore.com/Part/Sharp/Sharp/DUNTKD352DE19/New.aspx
If you have a different TV of the series look up the part in the manual.
Hope this helps.
When I first bought my Sharp Aquos 42 inch TV...I started having sound problems...turned the volume way up to 60 maximum and could hardly hear it.
Then after the TV was on for 4 or 5 hours, there would be crackling chirping popping noise. It seems after the TV heats up for awhile...there is MAJOR sound problems.
So I was advised to buy a Sony surround system and connect it to my TV...deactivate the TV volume and use ONLY the surround sound. I did that...but the surround audio cables are connected to the back of the TV and I get the exact SAME problem with chirping and crackling sounds after the TV heats up.
SHARP IS NOT BEING HONEST WITH CUSTOMERS.
There should definitely be a RECALL on the sound board.
Replacing it does nothing....the overheating of the TV just damages the new sound board and the TV has to be repaired again and again.
I want to know.
If it is the "sound chip" can I by-pass the internal speakers and expect it to work?
I had the same exact problem with my 37 inch aquos LCD TV at almost 3 years to the date. I called Sharp up and told them I want them to repair the tv at their cost since this was the second time I've had it repaired (first time in 2 months after I bought it) in 3 years. No questions asked and they are repairing it at no cost. I have to give it to them for taking care of the customer, but not too happy about the product. Hope others can benefit the same way. I let them know that others are having this issue and referenced this website. Big dissappointment for a $2500 purchase.
Sharp has set up a special service team to handle the Aquos sound problems. Our 2 year old set's sound went out and I called the Sharp service number (found on the net). It took 2 tries and the replacement of 2 boards, but they fixed it for free. Sharp is taking care of its customers.
UPDATE - from guest who posted on June 18, 08 as solution 4. Three months has passed and as suddenly as the trouble appeared it has cleared!! One day when I turned on the TV the static click that I I always heard was no longer there. I reconnected the TV directly to the CATV and it now has sound!! I don't know why but I am very happy
I have the same problem on my 2005 model. Sharp's help line was in fact NO help. They suggested I call a auth repair shop that was an hour drive away. The shop said bring it in and for $125 he would dgn the problem.
Instead I took the coax from cable company and connected it to my DVD player. Used video cables to connect the DVD player to the TV with no sound and connected the audio cables from the DVD player to the aux input on my stereo. I reconfig'd the DVD remote to turn on/off the TV and use the DVD remote as a tuner and the stereo to control the sound! While the fix is not ideal, it works for now
What 6 or 7 parts are you refuring to?

You can have them repaired using a TV Repair guy but often it costs as much as a brand new tv.
I hate to say this but its often cheaper to just buy a new TV.
My daughter broke my $1,600 LCD. It would have cost $1,200 to fix.. so I just bought a new one. After that I picked up a TV screen protector called TV Armor http://www.tv-armor.com Its designed to protect the TV from damage. Now I dont have to worry anymore when she is playing near it. It works really well.

crikett..Hi! The parts are from an online business called THE PARTS STORE...www.partstore.com, 1-866-925-PART, and when I called them and asked for a sound board for my SHARP Aquos and gave them the model and serial numbers, they told me they have a card, 2 different boards, and rattled off several other part names and numbers...then they asked which one I wanted...I HAVE NOOOO IDEA...(LOL). We opened up the TV and can see many different boards, but again, we don't know which one is for what and how to tell which one is bad. Sharp is NO HELP! I'm thinking of contacting John Stossel or some news station about this because the TV is only 2 years old and I've seen several posts on this site with the same problem...so this is NOTHING new to SHARP. What do you think?
I have the same problem. No sound. The repair man ordered a new sound card but it seems it arrived broken. A new one should be shipped by tomorrow!!
The TV is exactly 2 years old and we have been without sound for more than a month. Not really impressed by Sharp,
I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SOUND ON MY SHARP AQUOS 37', NO SOUND. IT SEEMS TO BE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. SOME TIMES I CAN TURN IT ON AND I HAVE SOUND. WE BOUGHT THE TV 24 MONTHS AGO. WHAT A SHAME. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SHARP PRODUCT. I FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH MY CABLE BOX AND THEN. I WAS TOLD I COULD BUY A SURROND SOUND SYSTEM.. I PAID $300.00 FOR A SYSTEM, THAT DID NOT WORK. VERY FRUSTRATING
I have the same problem. The sound will not come on. If I turn off the TV for several minutes, sometimes I can get the sound to come back. Most of the time it does not work
I've got the same problem. Â Turned on the TV one day, heard a single, faint popping sound in the right speaker, and then no further sound. Â Haven't been able to get any sound since . . . other than the little pop when I first turn on the TV. Â The TV is a little over 2 years old, so it's way too early for the thing to be breaking down like this. Â
I'm experiecing the same sound problems - popping/crackling, followed by loss of sound. I did the on/off even unplugging the power and hitting the reset. Sometimes it worked but eventually total loss of sound. Sharp is no help - they claim no known problems. They recommended a repair service. The service technician said he's seeing alot of Aqous with sound problems - a problem he said is caused by a soundboard that can't take the heat generated by the set. He installed a new board which was an improved board over the original - cost $125. One month later the set is back in for the same problem. Maybe Sharp's advertising should have been a clue - excellent picture but no mention of sound quality.
I'm having the same issues. I just bought my TV model lc-32d6u in 2006 before Thanksgiving and it's not even two years yet and the soundboard also overheated. In the meantime, I'm using my home stereo for audio, but I can't play my PS3 now =(
Sharp reps are no help this is really frustrating. Sharp should be ashamed of themselves.. I want a refund.. GOOD PICTURE BUT NO SOUND.....
HELP..
I've got the same problem. The TV is a little over 2 years old, so it's way too early for the thing to be breaking down like this. Turned on the TV one day, no sound. took the tv apart too find out part # moved card out of my way removed one ribben cable to move one card put the tv back togather. I have had sound, two weeks still working. My gust the ribben cable.
LC37D4U bought in Canada and same exact problem. Sometimes there is sound and sometimes it quits. Its a great pitty that Sharp will not own up to a design error on their flagship TV series. I suspect there are many others if a simple Google search turns up this forum with the same repeat problem. Maybe we should approach Sharp as a group and request action based on this obvious defect. I am electronics engineer by trade so in absence of Sharp helping out I will look into a possible solution.
Had popping sounds for a while, now no sound whatsoever. My electrician checked all connections and concluded the problem is with the TV.
I am having the same problem with my Sharp Aquos 32" LC-32 D4U. Â All of a sudden while watching, the sound went off. Â Turning the TV off and turning back on right away didn't help, however, after 30-45 min. when I turned it back on, had the sound for 10-15 min. and then again, it went off. Â I have written to Sharp and am waiting to hear from them. Â Plan to call after the holiday weekend.
Hi. Just found your site after searching the exact same problem. Had the TV almost 2 years and the sound is going out. If I leave the TV for a while, it seems to be ok but then after ten minutes, there's a faint pop and it goes out again. Had the cable boxes checked and changed and it's not that. Sounds like SHARP has a lemon that they're denying the existence of.
I have the same problem. No sound out of my LC-37D4U. Set is 25 months old, one month out of my credit cards extended warranty. I unplugged it at first, waited 2 minutes then plugged it back in and it worked again but went back out after a minute or so. Powering off, etc, has no effect now as the sound is gone for good. Will call Sharp to see if they"ll stand behind their product. If not, I will replace it with a Samsung and never buy another Sharp product.
I just experienced this problem today!! TV has been working fine for about 2 years, then all of a sudden as I'm watxhing TV I here a POP and the sound goes out. Thought it was the broadcast so I changed the channel but still NO SOUND, tried a different input, still NO SOUND.
I left the TV off for about an hour then turned it back on and had sound, but it went out again after a couple of minutes, haven't been able to get it back since.
Typing here and complaining ain't gonna do me anygood. What I really want is to know HOW to fix it!?!
I have same exact problem, just started a couple of weeks ago. If I leave the TV off for several hours and turn the TV back on it starts to work again. Very strange... I've had the TV for about 2 years. Last year it was a problem where the TV would turn itself "on". After several phone calls, Sharp sent a technician out and updated the TVs firmware and that took care of the problem. I've thought about doing a hard reset. Any thoughts?
I have the same LC-37D4U model; turns on by itself from time to time and now, except for a popping sound (when I turn on the TV), no sound at all. I read that someone had gotten a Sharp technician out to fix the problem. Any ideas as to how I can get one out to look into mine? I can't even locate a Sharp number.
Same problem as described previously.. Supposedly a bad sound card. Sharp LC-37GD6U 37. No sound or pops then sound goes off. We are still able to use by sending sound into our surround system.
I have the same problem. When I reprogram my scientific cable remote for the tv the sound comes back on. I don't know what to do. Where does someone get this tv fixed
Same problem. just started last week on Dec.14th. in the middle of a show. no sound. the next day was fine again for a whole week. then on Dec.21 again no sound. now happening every day. might start again after an hour or so. might not.
The sound went off today after the same popping sound. Tried unplugging and still not working. So glad to find this forum. We thought it might be the cable box. We have an extended warranty so we're hoping it will be taken care of. Very surprised at the number who share the same problem. Has anyone had experience with the warranty. Do they honor it without a hassle?
We recently purchased the Sharp 32" and it arrived 4 days ago, one day the sound is fine then the next day no sound - I called Sharp and luckily it is under warranty. I need to take it in to get it fixed...which is frustrating but at least it happened early on.
I have exactly the same problem. I purchased two Sharp LC-37D4U. One of them works well but the other one has remained silent for almos a year now. Not a good thing specialy at these prices.
Same problem with my 2.5 year old 37" Aquos. Heard popping then no sound. Fiddled with remotes and sound came back temporarily. Now gone again. I am using a set of external powered speakers from my computer while I figure out what to do next...very disappointing for the price ans supposed quality of the Sharp product. Next step....I'll call sharp and expect the runaround ;-) Any recommendations on a better quality LCD set?
I have a LC32D6U model, same thing, one day the sound is fine the next, no sound, I took it to a TV repair shop....$550.00!!! to fix the problem, It is now sitting it the spare bedroom taking up space we are back to the warm glow of the old tube. I've seem new 32"Flat screens for less! What to do?
Same problem for me. I've read the sound card overheats and shorts due to a bad heat sink unit that can't keep the set cool enough. Â I have LC26D6U. Â The repair costs and time of the failure are common enough ($300 and 2-3 years from time of purchase) are consistent across multiple owners to the degree that Sharp should have recalled this years ago. Â
My 32" Aquos is 3.5 yrs old. One day the volume worked fine, the next it didn't work at all. Took TV apart, reseated connections and still no sound. Like previous comments, appears there are potentially 3 boards outside the main board that could affect the sound issue.
We have a 32 inch Sharp Aquos lc-3d6u. Our sound went out when it was about 3 years old . Our local TV repair said our motherboard had failed and replaced it at a cost of $300.00. That was in December 2008. Now, four months later, the sound has gone out again. Now, I don't know what to do. I hate to throw away a TV and buy a new one. It is so bad for the environment. But I can't afford to a $300 bill every few months and weeks without a TV. This system needs to be recalled.
Have 37 inch Sharp Aquos, not cheap ($2500+) when bought 40 months ago, sound went out today. Turning off, then on, get a popping sound nothing else....looks like something they know or should know about. From others' accounts apparently expensive to repair and no guarantee. I will NEVER buy another SHARP product.
dave 1960 which ribbon are you talking about? and what is the part # for the ribbon? do you have the same model as the one i own?
Tube Guy,Â
How about Better Business Bureau or Consumer Reports? That's probably a good start...Â
I have called a local company in my area and inquired how much it will cost to get my tube fixed...Â
Diagnostics $250 to start with, I hung up right after that quote.. There's still Parts & Labor, and the warranty if my tube quacks again...
Sharp really needs to own up to their mistake.. It's frustrating.. NEVER BUYING ANY SHARP BRAND AGAIN....
Same problem "Aquos" . A pop and then no sound...I tried turning on TV first then cable box to see if that helped, it did not....sound goes out random and will stay out for 2-3 weeks
