In safe mode goto my conputer c:drive(boot drive) windows. In the windows folder look for a file called prefetch, delete all it contents. Exit out of everything and restart the pc. Ok I'm denise my problem is I get a blue screen telling me A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer If this is the first time you've seen this...

The Blue Screen of Death. Yes, I have had it many times. You can try to restart the computer using the F8 to enter safe mode. Then shutdown and restart. This usually happens when a file has been corrupted, normally by a virus or improper shutdown. If this doesn't repair the problem your left with trying to re-install the OS to fix the bad file. If yo can't get to safe mode your only option is trying to re-install the OS. If you see an option to install or repair choose repair to get the machine back up. I saw this a lot with ME, if you have Windows ME, get Windows XP and upgrade since Windows ME has so many bugs that XP would be a much better option.

How to remove BIOS memory cache

Since it is a Toshiba Tecra if you are not worried about losing data on the laptop you can try turning on the laptop and start pressing the zero key. It should give you the option to restore your laptop if you haven't deleted the restore partition on the laptop.

Unable to open windows

try booting into safe mode (hit F8 repeatedly when you reboot until a safe mode option comes up) then if you are able to log in, go to the windows run prompt, type "msconfig" go to startup, disable all, services, disable all. reboot. see if it still does the same, if it doesn't one of those services are causing blue screen. Also try reverting to previous drivers if you did any driver updates, remove any new cards/hardware you might of installed recently.

If you can't get into safe mode, at a copy of any xp disk. boot up from it. (make sure your boot devices are set that cd rom is before hdd in cmos setup) then go to the recovery console "you press 'r' when ou have various option" type 1 for the windows, enter. enter for password unless you previously set an admin password.

Then type "chkdsk /p", let it run also type fixboot, and say yes. reboot and see if this solves your problem.
