Well, that means something got realy hot under load. could be the main i.c. under the heatsink on one of the sustain boards. look for cook marks or discolorations on the backside of those boards. could also have been some condensors somewhere that popped but usually it wont be loud enough to hear and they may whistle instead and usually on the power board.

if the i.c. on (y-sus) popped on ya. it may have blown the upper and lower buffer boards it has attached to it. check with a meter to verify they are good or shorted (constant beep)

good thing is, lg has alot of boards out there.. shouldnt be a problem finding what you need.

Hello, Last night my Samsung plasma TV made a fairly loud popping sound while I was watching it and then the power went off. When I turned back it on, no picture but sound was o.k.

Yes the caps on theower supply, but you can check power supply board by smell an look for burnt parts it is common. May need more than one board if they are cheap get both.

As I was watching TV last night, my 50" LG Plasma TV 50PX1D, and it made 3 loud "popping" sound, and you can barely see the images. The picture is not jumping & the color doesn't appear to be fading in...

Either X,Y, or Z-boards seem to have developed a problem, when this happens it results in a 'sound-no-picture' condition. If its under warranty take it back, if not have your local tv repair center fix it for you....
