I wanted to upgrade the memory from 1Gb(in two 500mb slots) to 2Gb so purchased 1Gb Crucial memory. If I put the additional memory in one of the two purple slots computer will not work. If I replace one of the 500mb sticks in the green slots with the 1Gb all is well and I have 1.5Gb memory. If I try to use the then replaced 500mb in on of the purole slots the computer will not work. Why is this and can I make use of the now spare 500mb stick? Evesham Vale Axis 64 Mk3

if you only have slots, then you must remove the orginal 1GB and replace it with a 2GB. in other words, 2GB in each slot to get the 4 GB total.

As far as I know, the machine supports 4GB of ram, so you purchase the ram modules from a pc parts dealer and install them inside the machine, removing the existing ram, there are 2 slots, so you need 2, 2GB cards.

You do not require any drivers or bios update.

Windows will need to be upgraded to 64Bit version if you wish to use the full capacity. as normal windows is limited to 3-3.75GB

To maximize your ram speed, use the same speed and types of ram

For example, if you have a 1GB right now, add three more 1GB than putting in a 2GB and 1GB.
If you have a 4GB ram stick right now, add another 4GB and not 2x2GB. Also make sure the MHz on the ram is the same, (1333, 1600, 2000)

I have checked the Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX Specification It Originally has 2GB Memory and supports upto 4GB RAM max. If you intend to upgrade the RAM, you can buy additional RAM and put them in you system. Here is the HP Guide to Replace RAM and How to Upgrade RAM Guide
Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX has two RAM slots for DDR-2 (533 or 667) Memory Modules. First you have to check that the RAM slot is available for additional RAM. I believe that it has two modules of 1GB each in both slots. So, you have to get two modules of RAM 2GB each to upgrade to 4GB (or one 2GB RAM module to upgrade to 3GB). Hence, it is recommended that you get 2GB replacement module for each 1GB module you have on you system from local laptop repair/ service center, which would be cost effective as existing 1GB RAM Modules would be useless for you upon upgrade.

First, you have to find out the max of ram that you can add to your pc. Then go to the website crucial.com and run a test where it will tell you what memory and how much you can add. If you decide to purchase the memory and after you recieved , open the case and locate the empty slop where the memory is going to be install. It should be the small slots not the white big ones. Then carefully open the case from the memory and then put i on the slot of the pc. Turn the pc on and then see if it recognize it

I would advice you to add one gb more with same value, kind and frequency this you can read on the installed module after removing it from your laptop

You can upgrade by inserting a 1GB PC2100 DDR SDRAM DIMM. I would put the 1MB in the first slot and move the 512MB chip to the second slot.
The 1GB should cost around $40.

It looks like you've got DDRII memory. According to Crucial http://crucial.com you can place up to 2GB of memory on your machine. (1GB in each slot) If you're unsure, remove one of your existing memory sticks to verify that it's DDRII.

You can use even 1 stick of 2GIG of RAM or 2 X 1GIG of RAM or any combination will do for as long it will just be a max of 2GIG since that's the max support of your motherboard....
