I do not see why it would not the boards are very much the same except the 2 extra DIMMs on the HP so it is quite possible it will work.
Just checked the HP website and found out there board supports up to the Athlon 64 X2 5000+ heres the board practically the same.

That was a valiant try, Noligy, but the versions in the HP and Compaq are actually different even though their mobos share the same model number. For instance, I bet the HP version you reference has 4 dimm slots. The Compaq version has only 2. Check out the mobo drawings for each model and you'll see what I mean.
That's what I found, too. But there was some chatter on the forums that there was a bios update for a mobo by that model number. It seems that the bios update is for the HP version.
Question: Would the HP bios update work on the Compaq version, and if so, would it extend the board's CPU upgrade path beyond the 3800 listed on the link you referenced?
