Possibly. This link outlines some repair options for a lens error. None involve opening the camera. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty, or quoted professional repair costs are excessive.
Since that camera is waterproof, you do not want to open it or it will not longer be sealed properly, leave this one to the pros. If you go to camerasandparts.com I know they specialize in the problems on the canon powershots only. I'd send them an email and ask if they can help you. That is such an awesome camera, that would be the place to get it fixed. good luck with it
Be very careful of the warranty on this product. I contacted Canon support and after being transferred to a supervisor I was told the warranty does not cover water damage, sand/corrosion damage, dropping the camera. I could not believe this so I looked at the warranty card included with the camera and sure enough that's exactly what it says. Canon does not warranty a camera that is designed to go in the water against water damage.

Love the D10. Had the lens error soon after I bought it 2-3 years ago, after a lengthy return under warranty, back in service until today 4-25-13. Was I po'd, hearing about very expensive repairs. Looking at links to sites where non-waterproof cameras were repaired by manipulating the lens, I thought, since I don't want to open the camera, why not give it a sharp rap on the desk and see if the lens will free itself. Ta da! Give it a try, if you dare, before sending for an expensive repair. If you were going to pitch it, at least pick it up out of the wastebasket, maybe it will be fixed.
