Hello there. The Inspiron 1510 was released almost 5 years ago. If your system is more than 2 years old, then perhaps you will have to replace the battery. Battery for the most part, will only last 1 to 2 years. As for the battery, try connecting an external USB keyboard. If its working, then you need to replace the laptop's keyboard. Hope this will help.

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, model no. PP23LA. My problem is that the system does not recognise the power adaptor/charger & will not charge the battery. The laptop will run with the power...

If the battery is not charging, the problem is most likely the battery...not the charger. Check around to see if you can get a battery replacement I think would be your best course of action. If you have a friend with a model laptop with the same battery you could always "test out the scenario" before purchasing one.

Good Luck

This should have a "battery check" button on the battery itself. Remove the battery and press the button. If it reveals that the battery is not fully charged, or you cannot get it to take full charge, perhaps all that you need is a new battery. If the battery is failing the check the system makes on it at boot, it won't.

On the long term, a power adapter with a bigger amperage can damage battery and battery charger.

Better to get an adapter with same specs as the 65/70W one , or an original replacemant:

Battery cannot be identified Every time I boot up my Dell Inspiron 1501 I get the following message: "Warning: The Battery cannot be identified. This system will be unable to charge this battery."...

Generally this is an indication that the battery has failed. The normal life span of a PC battery is 300 to 500 recharge cycles (Roughly 12 to 18 months) so the most likely answer is buy a new battery since this one is already out of warranty

Replacement battery for Dell Inspiron 1501 won't charge

If your old battery was doing the same (not charging), then is is because the charger is not charging the battery. Do you have a friend with a Dell laptop? Maybe you can use a borrowed charger to test and see if it will charge the batteries. To answer your question , no Dell does not have anything built in to prevent you from using a 3rd party battery.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
