Canon PIXMA MP160 showing paper jam, but none

I tried EVERYTHING. I'm almost giving up! Unplugging the printer for a week, checking for paper jams, removed and inserted the ink cartridges, but no solution. My printer keeps flashing an E,3 message, but there's NO paper jam. What's going on? I'm getting very frustrated.

well my problem is similar to amelynn 1973's it gets the paper as if it's running but then the paper stops almost at the beginning and nothing it just returns it back.

  • Youdiano Feb 26, 2008

Same problem - the 'alarm' light is on, the message E and 3 repeatedly flashing and nothing happens whichever button I press. Turned it off and on again many times. No good. No paperjam. The ink cartridge carrier does not move to the left when the cover is lifted (eg to change cartridges) and it just does not move.

I was printing a document but instead of printing the paper went all the way through and then it said there was a paper jam. I have tried everything even trying to print something else with the magazine cover as suggested. Any other ideas?

Prints first sheet then a blank then tells me to clear paper jam when there isn't one. I have tried to clean it so far as one can get at the inside area of the machine - even taken the hoover to it but to no avail.

  • mmlereve Oct 19, 2008

Yep! same problem. I havent even had the printer that long. And just when I was about to print my wedding invitations too!! Ive tryed cleaning the rollers, dusting etc, to no avail. Theres no point sending it in to get fixed either. I mean, theres nothing wrong with it. No paper jam? It seems there is a major problem with the pixma 160. So Im just going to get a new one. Damn thing!!!

Hi
just recently had these problems
symptoms:
LED flashing E3 code and alarm light was solid. But dissapeared when opened the coved and came back on when closed the cover.
Also the when the cover was open the inks did not slide out to the left and stayed to the right side.
There was no paper jam, but error said paper jam.

Solution:
1. I took a thick piece of paper, from like a paper folder ones, thick enough to go in the printer and not curl up when pushed..
2. turned off the printer and turned it back on.
3, while printer was turning on,and makings sound as it does normally when turning on, I pushed through the piece of paper and the rotors stoped for a millisecond.
4.the rotors started again and pushed out the paper by it self with out my force.
5. I let the printer get started. and then turned it off and then on.
6. this solved all of my problems.
this was the first problem ever with this printer in 3 years.,preety good printer.

good luck...

Don't know if it's the same problem i had but its maybe worth a try. My paper went in a little, the wheels were turning but it didn't take the rest of the paper or print.
Yesterday someone replied to my problem, i tried it this morning and its fixed 1st time.
Solution:- Use a piece of thin card, a magazine cover is what i used, make sure its A4 size then try to print something, as the paper starts moving PUSH it through! and hey presto it worked for me, everything printing fine now

I had this problem and had to send it back to Canon. The repairman found what he said were "popcorn kernels and insect remains" inside the printer. He said, "These things are notorious for jamming." Then I was charged $60. I wish I had never purchased this printer; I've had nothing but trouble with it.

Paper is becoming continually jammed

If the paper path is cleared and still blinking, try unplugging the cartridge while on and replace it. Reclose the printer door a couple of times. Sometimes it will catch and not reset.

My cannon MP160 pixma keeps telling me there is a paper jam when there is no paper in it, it will copy and give me color tests printed out but if i try to print a doc. It says E# paper jam

Hello thanks for using fixya

Actually you are facing E3 error, E3 error is mostly because of paper jam. their may be small bit paper jam in side
There are some "micro-sensors" that detect a paper jam. There will be tiny piece of paper, or a lump of dust, inside those sensors, thus "tripping" the sensor and saying you paper jam.

To solve it
Open printer cover and check to make sure no paper or foreign objects obstructing the printer feeder

If you become sure that now really there is no paper, dust or foreign objects then
Turn the printer off, and disconnect the AC power-cable. Open the printer cover & now give the printer a "blow-job" by compressed air.
If still problem exist then best & final option is to just contact to any Canon service provider.

I hope this solution will helpful 4 u

Paper jam

One of your jam sensors may be stuck in the actuated position by a paper scrap or dust, giving a jam code to your printer. There are usually two sensors, one where the paper feeds, and one where the paper exits. Try this: hand-feed a sheet of paper through the machines paper path,IN THE DIRECTION THE PAPER NORMALLY FEEDS. This may force out whatever is actuating the sensors.
