On a recent trip, we dropped our Canon PowerShot SD500 on a hard surface - it hasn't worked since. We've replaced it with a newer model, but wonder if it's worth repairing the SD500?
Thanks!
The SD500 is an older unit but it's a really great model. If you try to have it serviced, Canon no longer services that model as they consider it to be out of it's service life. Canon is also extremely expensive for repairs anyway. If you do want to have it looked after, this is the site we recommend for service on the Canon's: www.CamerasAndParts.com They are often about half of what Canon wants to repair the Powershots and the work through them is excellent. They also service the unit and perform the cleanings as well. Your model there is about $79 including return shipping, where through Canon it ends up being about double. If you don't fix your SD500, save them for future if you need them for your new Canon. They just work on the Powershot models! We recommend them for their work quality and pricing as a very sensible alternative to repairs through Canon.
See Canon SD 600 posts referring to Lens Error, restart camera. I just fixed mine today.
