2001 Dodge Stratus R/T 3.0L V6. Motor ticks on top end while running. Every couple minutes the ticking goes away and then comes back. Timing belt is original, vehicle has 145,000 miles

A ticking noise at the top of the engine suggest either sticking/worn valve lifters or wear on camshaft lobes.

An oil change won't cure any mechanical wear, but it certainly won't do any harm either..

You can also try adding an additive to the oil. There are additives for 'quietening valve train noise'. The alternative is to remove the camshaft and lifters for inspection/replacement as necessary.

With 145, 000 miles on the clock your engine has done well - but no engine doesn't wear or suffer from the occasional fault. Maintenance such as frequent oil changes negates many problems, but wear and faults do develop.

You have the original rubberised camshaft/timing belt on a 2001 car with 145,000 on the clock? You're living on borrowed time. If that belt snaps your car is history. Scrap value. Change it...

My 2001 Kia Sportage w/145,000 and has a annoying tapping sound

When the engine warms up it should be fine.
Check that you are using the proper oil. Also check if there is a winter oil recommended. Sometimes winter oil is a bit lighter weight and can help keep the ticking noise down or gone all together.
