Bad picture until tv warms up

When we turn on our tv you can't see a picture-or atleast it is so bad you can tell what it is. Wavy, squiggly vertical lines-then about 5 min later the picture is great. I wanted to find out if it is a easy fix or do we just use it till the tv dies and it's not worth fixing.

Is there something that needs to be changed so it warms up quickly?

I have the same problem with all of my inputs except HDMI. The ps2, LD, & DVD all get better but never stop shaking and the lines never go away completely.

Hello..Toshiba 51HC85, 2005 model. Turn on TV and verticle wavy lines appear until TV is warmed up completely. After warm up the picture is great again. Any ideas?

I've had the same problem for about the last 6 months. My workaround which was to leave the tv on 24 7 and just turn off the TWC service box. But now the symptoms are vertical dark lines going all the way across screen. My guess is that it will cost more to fix than worth it. I paid @$2000 for it new in 2004. Technology has gotten better so I may just go out and get a Samsumg for considerably less and be way better off. None of Toshiba's products had done well for me. 2 laptops, 3 tvs, etc. have taught me this.

Start up problem

Bill;

Cause 1
1. VERTICAL ROLLING, VERTICAL BLANKING BAR LOCKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PICTURE, ALSO MAY HAVE HORIZONTAL PULLING OR TEARING. CHECK C2C52 10 UFD @ 50 V OFF THE BASE OF Q2C51 ON THE SIGNAL PCB.

2. CHECK C2P05 100 UFD 16 V OFF PIN 3 OF IC2P01 AND IC2P01 PART # 270P466020 (9-VOLT REGULATOR). BOTH ARE ON THE SIGNAL PCB.
Replace all these if they look bad or not. If you can't do it yourself call a service Company and get an estimate, it should cost about $450 if they know what they are doing.
Thanks using FixYa, Big Irish.

About two months ago when we first turned on the TV there were wavy lines across the whole picture. When it warmed up they would go away. Now, the lines are there almost all the time and it's getting...

hi
You are experiencing a lack of vertical deflection or vertical collapse. Since it will come back the first thing I would suspect is “ring cracks” in the solder joint in the vertical circuit, mainly the vertical IC. These suspect solder joint can be re-soldered and the television set repaired.
I would suggest that you contact a local servicer. If you are repairing the set yourself, be careful, there is always a risk of shock when dealing with electronics.
OR
Check your equipment connections. Disconnect your equipment (VCR, DVD or set-top box) from the TV and reconnect, making sure each connection is in tight.

Bad picture until tv warms up

this is a very common occurance in these sets. toshiba has issued a servece bullteen with this set. Sorry to tell you this but this is a problem with some very small capacitors on what is known as the hypermodule. in my shop we fix 2 to 5 of these a month. you really have to know how to solder. Idealy replace the hypermodule is the best way. but......that board is hard to find. so we replace these 11 very very small componets with twezzers and a big magnifier. we charge about 250 to 350 for this repair.
