The issue was caused by software that may have been installed with the option to burn or copy things to and from a disc.
The issue is resolved by the following:
Clicking start.
Typing regedit in the start search box.
Hit enter.
Look on left for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for SYSTEM.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for CurrentControlSet.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for Control.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for Class.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for the first line of random letters and numbers. Example: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Click on the line itself this time. NOT the arrow.
Look on the right side under the data tab for (value not set).
Keep clicking the down arrow key until it says DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Then look under the name tab for either Upper Filter or Lower Filter or both.
Right on both these if listed (they may not always both be there).
Select delete.
Close windows and restart computer.
****
hope it helps
Sounds liek you have a driver or filter issue. this is not uncommon. give this a try to remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
