Oven does not get to temp when it says its preheated

I have a ge spectra xl44 oven, that I set to 350, the beeper goes off saying it is preheated, but when you check with an over thermometer, it is 250 or 300 degrees. You really need to preheat it for 1/2 hour or so to get it to 350 any ideas. Gas company came out and for $150.00 they told me it could be the thermostat or something else. It is 10 years old, but with minimal use.

Sorry, I disagree, as I said in my original post, it is not getting there sooner, I checked with portable oven thermometer which I purchased at the store and as I said, it does read that it is preheated, but does not actually get to the 350 degrees to 1/2 - 3/4 of an hour.

More than likely, its your oven thermometer thats taking a half hour to read correctly. The oven is probably getting there sooner. If you had a digital thermometer, the read would come quicker. So save your money, nothing wrong with your stove.

So sorry I couldn't be more helpful, my answer may not have been what you wanted to hear, but I am correct. Please feel free to spend as much money as you want and understand there will be no change what so ever to the way your oven works.

Of the service manual shows your diagram. The oven sensor should read 1100 ohms @room temp (75f) All these new fangled electronically controlled ovens use a sensor. The negative temp coefficient sensor relays back changes in resistance whenever the temp changes inside the oven. If that sensor is not correct, open, or shorted to frame then the control will not function properly.

The oven was obviously not heated to 350 even though this was the setting. There is a very simple proceedure to calibrate the oven. It is different on different makes of ovens. Your owners manual will give you the detail of how to reset yours. If the manual is not available, click on the following link. Hope this is helpful.

Magic chef oven/stove top range not staying hot

Hi, It very well could be the ignitor. Sometimes they work at first and then will not open the gas valve later in cycle. You can set the oven to heat and watch the ignitor. If it glows and the gas will not ignite in 30 to 45 seconds, the igniter is getting weak. I jope this helps.
Please let me know if I can assit you further.

Preheat takes forever

click the link  Oven temp sensors sense the temperature is the oven cavity and the temp sensor changes resistance, this change in ohm resistance tells the oven control what temperature the oven cavity at and tells the control to shut off the element or turn it back on. The most common temp sensors used today ( *not all ) are approx 1000-1100 ohm resistance at room temperature ( 70F )
Some ohm readings and there temperature:
Degrees F    -   Resistance
            100 - 1143 ohms
             200 - 1350 ohms
             300 - 1553 ohms
             350 - 1654 ohms
             400 - 1753 ohms
            500 - 1949 ohms
