When printing from computer and selecting tray 2 with 8.5x11 in it, if Tray 1 (Manual Feed) is in the down position with 11x17 paper in it the 5550n will automatically feed from Tray 1.

look at the tray settings on the printer, (Access the control panel) typical setting is "any size any type", change the tray 1 setting to 11 x 17 , plain paper, and it will then take the paper as requested.

Printer won't print. Flashing red light. No paper jam and ink cartridges are ok. Please help!!

Per the manual, it's 99.9 % one of these causing the issue. The other .1 % should take it back or get a new one.

The printer requires attention. Try the following:
● If the printer is connected to a computer, check the computer screen for
instructions. If the printer is not connected to a computer, check for the following
problems:
– Top cover open
– Out of paper
– Paper jam
– Print carriage jammed or stuck
– Print cartridge inserted incorrectly
– Incorrect print cartridge installed
● If you are unable to solve the problem by using the instructions above, turn off the
printer and unplug the printer's power cord. Wait one minute, then plug it in again.
Turn on the printer.

HP LaserJet 5000n - Paper jam under the cartridge

Check the tray to make sure the paper stops are set right and that the printer is set for the correct size paper. Clean the feed rollers above the paper in the tray and if necessary, replace them.

Hp 5550 laserjet paper jam

Thhis error is usually due to a dirty photcell (sensor) in the tray 2 paper feed assembly or a broken sensor flag in the same assembly. Start be removing all cartridges and the transfer belt. Look in the bottom of the printer below the lowest cartridge slot for a removeable cover. That's the area your problem is probably in. I have incuded a link to a free PDF of complete service manual below. Good luck.
